Schwab Advisor Services (AS), a division of Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. is the leading provider of custody, trading, technology, and operational support to registered independent advisory firms (RIAs).  In addition to custody services, Schwab Advisor Services provides practice management and consultative support to help independent advisors start, build, and grow their businesses.  

The mission of the AS Operational Effectiveness Team is to increase satisfaction for advisors, clients, and business partners by improving the efficiency of Schwab’s operational processes and platforms. We achieve this by:

  • Developing strategies and executing project plans for operations-based initiatives
  • Applying data-driven analysis and process optimization to identify and implement workflow improvements
  • Creating tools and programs to monitor, drive, and sustain ongoing operational process enhancements

What you will do

In this role, you will play a pivotal part in creating efficient and scalable processes - an essential priority for Advisor Services’ long-term success. You will work closely with the AS Risk organization to design and implement technological solutions for supervisory controls and process streamlining.

We seek a candidate with strong functional technology experience who brings business acumen, analytics, and consulting skills to frame and solve complex problems. You should be flexible, able to prioritize effectively, and manage competing demands to meet deadlines without compromising the team’s success.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with business and technology groups across Schwab to design and implement solutions meeting project objectives
  • Design, develop, and test solutions utilizing various reporting tools and database platforms
  • Gather data and requirements to build or enhance processes and reporting systems
  • Accurately document procedural changes and manage impacts related to change and implementation
  • Develop, test, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes
  • Conduct comprehensive, fact-based end-to-end analysis to inform strategic business decisions and support enterprise direction

  • Strong analytical skills; ability to perform complex analysis and/or data mining that results in accurate findings and actionable interpretations
  • Excellent communication, influencing and relationship building skills that allows your work product to tell a credible story that drives meaningful change for the business
  • Strategic thinking and process orientation; experience developing a disciplined, and consistent approach to review analysis with business leaders to inform ongoing operational improvement and sound decision-making
  • Drive ongoing process and cost optimization working with peers, key stakeholders and cross-enterprise partners while aligning with business priorities and strategic objectives

What you have


  • Experience with analytical and data visualization tools (SQL, Tableau, SAS)
  • Strong knowledge of SQL with comfort interacting with various database types including Oracle, SQL Server, Google BigQuery, etc.
  • Strong curiosity, and a passion for creative problem solving with the ability to implement solutions quickly and successfully
  • Self-starter that can thrive in a multifaceted, fast-paced environment with a positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Results and quality-oriented with the ability to effectively gather, interpret and evaluate information
  • Ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize time-sensitive assignments
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, analysis, and visualization application (i.e. Tableau)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including expert presentation and communication skills – both written and oral
  • Understanding of the digital and technology landscape, preferably within financial services
