Schwoomerangs: Returning to Schwab with Tye A.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to return to a company after spending time away? For Tye A., coming back to Schwab meant rediscovering a workplace that supports his career growth and feels like home.

Tye’s journey is similar to many other “Shwoomerangs” – or employees who have returned to our company. Join us for this installment of a series where we dive into the experiences of these colleagues and learn how our benefits, professional opportunities, and welcoming culture influenced their decision to return.

Q: Tell us a little about yourself.

Tye: “I am originally from a small college town called Oberlin in Ohio, but I currently live in Denver. My hobbies include going to concerts, playing video games, photography, and hanging out with my dog Chowder! I am currently a Sr Specialist on the Sourcing Team in Talent Acquisition, so I am one of those people who messages you on LinkedIn about new roles at Schwab.”

Q: What initially brought you to Schwab?

Tye:  “I was a referral from a fellow Schwabbie back in 2019 when I finished college. At that time, I truly didn’t know what I wanted; I just knew I wanted to do more.”

Fresh out of college and eager to find a role that would challenge him, Schwab seemed like the perfect place to start. It offered him the chance to dive into interesting work and grow in a supportive environment.

Q: During your time away, did you find that Schwab’s values and culture were unique?

Tye:  “Yes! When I left the firm, I worked for a small independent company where there was no real organization or Employee Value Proposition (EVP) set up. While I was gone, I missed the simple things like our benefits, PTO, and sick time, but also how employees treat each other with respect and having leaders that truly care about you.”

Q: What led you to return to Schwab?

Tye: “I had some life events that caused me to move back to Ohio from South Carolina, and I knew that coming back to Schwab would be a great opportunity.”

However, it wasn’t just about landing a new role; it was about rejoining a place where he felt he could truly grow and contribute. Schwab wasn’t just a company to Tye; it was a place where he felt connected and valued.

Q: Do you feel empowered to learn and grow at Schwab?

Tye: “When I came back to the firm, my current role was new so there was a lot of trial and error. It was a newer space for me as well, so it took a good amount of time to really work out the kinks. There was a point in time where I felt I was not performing well enough, so my leader and I sat down and formulated a plan to address the concerns and how to fix them.”

Q: Were there any Schwab initiatives or programs that caught your attention and influenced your decision to return?

One of the things Tye was excited about when he returned was reconnecting with Schwab’s Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), like our Black Professionals at Charles Schwab (BPACS).

Tye: “I used to be part of BPACS when I worked out of Richfield, and I was excited to be able rejoin them!”

Our ERGs are a great way for Schwabbies to network and make a difference beyond their everyday roles. At their core, these groups reflect our dedication to creating a vibrant, engaged, and inclusive workplace.

Q: What advice would you give to people who are considering joining, or returning to, Schwab?

Tye: “My advice would be to talk to current employees of all levels and figure out what has made them stay or return! I value very candid and open conversations, so being able to talk to someone and get their perspective is important to me. I have yet to find someone who is unwilling to make time to talk about their career and passions here at Schwab.

Q: Is there anything else you’d like us to know or want to share?

Tye: “I just wanted to thank Danielle B., as she is the reason I was able to return! I reached out to her via LinkedIn about the changes in my life and she connected me to Brooke, who is now a teammate of mine. So network as much as you can because you never know what can happen.”
