This individual must have a passion for the client and user experience, and the ability to balance tight timelines, multiple priorities, and risks in order to make decisions and optimize outcomes. They must collaborate effectively with business and technology partners and be able to coordinate across functional teams and enterprises to deliver platform changes. 

The Product Manager acts as a line-leader and works cross-functionally with other domain leaders and executive partners from other Schwab business units: Technology, Legal, Compliance, and User Experience Design teams. They implement new methods for connecting our internal and external offer and solution capabilities with our clients and internal users focused on driving outcomes through a data-based methodology.

In this role, you will be part of an organization leading Schwab’s digital transformation in the fast-paced digital landscape of financial services. You will have the opportunity to apply your strong critical thinking skills and aptitude to become expert in understanding the needs of clients and advisors and defining best-in-class digital experiences to address these needs.

This role requires a developed understanding of the financial services and the wealth management landscape, the ability to navigate complex partnerships, build long-term relationships across the organization, and negotiate creative solutions to deliver advice at scale large scale.

Efforts are broad in scope and require creativity and world-class strategic thinking, as well as strong product management and leadership skills. The successful candidate must be energetic and enthusiastic about innovation and a passion for translating business needs and user feedback into technology solutions that meet the strategic objectives of the firm. They will be self-motivated, results oriented and able to independently lead major strategic initiatives. Strong client-focus is a must.

Responsibilities:

  • The Product Manager will be part of a collaborative, high-performing team responsible for establishing strategic objectives, prioritization principles and philosophy; leading development of 12-month product road map and release plan; focusing team on portfolio and account performance client and advisor experiences across client and advised facing platforms.
  • You will oversee team development of roadmaps, and lead direction on initial business case development for new initiatives.
  • You will work closely with internal business partners to identify opportunities and lead the implementation of strategic initiatives to address changing industry trends, evolve our business and economic model, pursue market growth opportunities, and improve internal business processes and operations.
  • Review, prioritize, and triage initiatives and develop resourcing strategies; work with stakeholders to synchronize work, make prioritization decisions, agree on goals, priorities dependencies; review stories and epics when required, overseeing work of the scrum teams.
  • Define processes for identifying user needs and the user journey; teach and inspire leaders to evolve product suites/platforms and thoroughly incorporate user view into product vision/roadmaps.
  • Maintain strong relationships with Retail and Wealth Solutions business partners and legal and compliance partners to help translate business strategy into roadmaps.
  • Serves as a control owner for the team and drives accountability for following risk management procedures Works with cross-functional partners to anticipate risks; identifies, tests controls. Ensures vision and strategy aligned with maintaining client trust through effective risk mitigation.
  • Leads the team, setting clear expectations and provides specific feedback; coaches others to yield better performance; effectively manages team time and resources, including aligning talent to initiatives based on need or development opportunity.

What you have


Required qualifications

  • 5+ years product management experience in financial services and/or technology
  • A background in financial services is required
  • Experience with investment management and/or financial planning systems and software is a required
  • Bachelor’s degree required and post graduate degrees are a plus
  • Expertise in the competitive landscape of the financial services industry, especially as it relates to performance methodologies, experiences and how wealth and advised clients utilize performance capabilities.
  • Deep understanding of modern portfolio theory, portfolio models and the role of portfolio management within the wealth management industry.
  • Experience partnering with experience research teams and utilizing primary and secondary research to develop informed decisions and strategy for a suite of experiences.
  • Expertise in project planning and managing a broad set of milestones across initiatives, working with stakeholders to mitigate risks and drive forward dependencies by holding partners accountable.
  • Expert user of Microsoft, Atlassian and other Product Management productivity suites of products
  • Collaborative skills and the ability to create relationships inside and outside the team
  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects with short to medium-term timelines; well versed at connecting strategic objectives to tactical implementation and decomposition of business requirements
  • Superior verbal, quantitative, organizational, presentation, and analytical skills
  • Proven track record of building complex relationships and partnerships that generate high value
  • Curiosity, a can-do attitude, and the ability to learn quickly and thrive in a complex, dynamic environment
  • Self-starter with outstanding organizational skills and ability to track multiple project deliverables with minimal direction
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to make decisions and progress in the face of ambiguous and at times overlapping priorities, i.e., Managing to fixed scope and date scenarios
  • Highly developed communication and presentations skills with a superior ability to effectively communicate and present complex concepts and issues to leadership teams in a highly compelling, persuasive, fact-based manner.
  • Highly skilled at working cross functionally with technology, service, marketing and product teams to create, implement and evolve our reporting solutions offering tangible, measurable client results.
  • Strong digital product management skills including experience with design thinking and client journeys
  • Experience in Agile development practices leading multiple teams as Product Owner

 In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
