Retail Supervision and Risk Management (RSRM) is an independent group responsible for providing supervisory support through direct supervision, escalation, oversight, analysis, and supervisory risk assessments, to Schwab’s Investor Services. Retail Supervision and Risk Management’s vision is to be a trusted independent partner of all Schwab stakeholders that promotes business growth through effective risk management. As the Retail Supervision & Risk Management (RSRM) Policy Senior Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and overseeing the Retail Policy Framework. Your responsibilities will encompass governance and oversight, coordination with risk, business, and compliance partners to evaluate the impact of business and regulatory changes, policy creation and modification, and responding to regulatory exams and inquiries. You will also lead strategic policy initiatives aimed at integrating, simplifying, and evolving the Retail policy framework. Leveraging your extensive regulatory compliance experience and industry knowledge, you will implement best practices, challenge policy design credibly, and ensure that all policies are consistent, clear, and effective.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build Strong Relationships: Collaborate and coordinate with internal partners and key stakeholders, including business, legal, Compliance, subject matter experts, and risk partners, to drive strategic policy initiatives and achieve firm and specific outcomes.
  • Establish Policy Standards: Develop and implement policy standards and best practices, ensuring consistency across all business lines.
  • Effective Communication: Communicate clearly and persuasively, both in writing and verbally, to convey complex regulatory information in a way that is easy to understand and adhere to.
  • Policy Writing Expertise: Demonstrate a passion for policy writing, using clear and uniform language to create and modify policies.
  • Credible Challenge: Provide informed and credible challenges to policy design, grounded in a deep understanding of risk, regulatory expectations, and industry standards.
  • Project Management: Develop and execute plans within agreed timelines, manage expectations, and communicate any changes effectively.
  • Leadership: Coordinate and lead working groups, ensuring that all members are aligned and working towards common goals.
  • Transparency: Develop and communicate metrics and reporting to ensure transparency in policy-related initiatives.

What you have


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 7-10 years of industry experience, with a minimum of 5 years in compliance policy and procedure writing for broker-dealers and/or Registered Investment Advisers (RIAs), preferably in retail financial services.
  • Significant experience with broker-dealer and advisory rules and regulations.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry policy standards and methods.

Preferred Qualifications_

  • Series 7, 9/10, or 24 licenses.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) is a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple, competing initiatives simultaneously.
  • Proven organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities effectively.
  • Clear, concise, and impactful communication skills, both verbal and written, tailored to the intended audience.
  • Ability to anticipate the implications and consequences of situations and take proactive steps to prepare for contingencies.
  • Innovative mindset and a positive, professional attitude with a strong work ethic, high integrity, and a commitment to excellence.
  • Ability to think creatively to streamline or reimagine existing processes, while influencing stakeholders to drive a vision that meets their needs and requirements.
