Retail Supervision and Risk Management (RSRM) is an independent group responsible for providing supervisory support through direct supervision, escalation, oversight, analysis, and supervisory risk assessments, to Schwab’s Investor Services (retail) group. Retail Supervision and Risk Management’s vision is to be a trusted independent partner of all Schwab stakeholders that promotes business growth through effective risk management. POSITION SUMMARY

Director, Retail Supervision and Risk Management

The Director, Retail Supervision and Risk Management is responsible for leading the centralized supervisory and control functions supporting specific Retail businesses, including our service and trading organizations.  This position will lead teams responsible for the delivery of consistent, high-quality supervision and furthering Retail priorities while appropriately managing risk.  This role is also responsible for driving the strategic supervisory and control priorities for these businesses.  This role requires strong leadership and a passion for high supervisory standards, employee professional development, and strong risk management.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a member of the Retail Supervision and Risk Management Leadership team
  • Design efficient, effective, and scalable supervision and control programs, starting with the risk.
  • Set the vision and strategy for centralized supervision supporting Retail businesses, including service support and trading teams.
  • Partner with internal governance and strategy teams to enhance supervisory and control practices related to our Retail business models.
  • Build high performing; diverse, cross-functional teams rallied around the strategy.
  • Deliver high quality, impactful results regardless of dependencies and obstacles utilizing the right mix of analysis, instinct, agility, and urgency.
  • Ensure strong governance over supervisory changes, consistent risk management supervision practices, procedures and controls across the organizations supporting our Retail client base. 
  • Develop strong, mutually beneficial partnerships with critical business colleagues in and across the organization.

What you have


Required background and experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required
  • Active and valid FINRA Series 7
  • Active and valid FINRA Series 63
  • Active and valid FINRA Series 8 (9/10)
  • 10+ years’ experience in financial services focused on supervisory, risk, control, or compliance.
  • 10+ years’ experience in managerial or executive positions, with increasing scope and complexity of responsibility.
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, with demonstrated ability developing materials and effectively presenting information.
  • Ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively; adept at engaging with senior leadership and key stakeholders, instilling confidence through thoughtful insights, active listening, and sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated trajectory of advancement through leadership ranks, reflecting continuous professional development and adaptability to complex challenges.
  • Demonstrated business maturity as a leader with strong execution experience leading teams supporting complex and varied projects and enterprises.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and drive groups towards achieving ambitious goals.
  • Exceptionally broad understanding of the Retail organization and an ability to build control programs and roadmaps for a complex set of deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships through collaboration across all levels of the organization, motivating colleagues to accomplish work effectively and urgently.
  • Ability to analyze data, develop recommendations, and influence partners.
  • Ability to work strategically with business partners in various departments such as legal, compliance and risk.
  • Proactive self-starter who is able to independently lead and drive work, influence, effectively communicate and work in a fast-paced, rigorous environment.
  • Self-driven, takes initiative and accountability; works with an accelerated sense of urgency to enable the business to meet its goals.
