Director, Digital Assets Deputy BSA/AML Officer

Financial Crimes Risk Management (FCRM) is a part of Charles Schwab & Co. Corporate Risk Management. FCRM is committed to aligning with all laws and regulations governing the identification and reporting of suspicious activity. FCRM, which includes Fraud Risk Management, the BSA/AML/Sanctions Program, Shared Services and Conduct Risk Management verticals, is dedicated to the goals of safeguarding the Firm’s assets and making Charles Schwab the most trusted leader in the financial services industry.

FCRM’s BSA/AML/Sanctions Program is currently seeking a Director to act as the Digital Assets Deputy BSA/AML Officer. This role requires critical leadership skills while serving as an expert in financial crimes particularly related to digital assets. The Director will lead the development of the AML Digital Assets Program and oversee the assessment of financial crimes risk presented by digital assets, ensuring regulations are being met, while ensuring an affirmative commitment to safeguard customer and corporate assets against financial crimes.

What you’ll do:

  • A successful candidate must possess strong collaboration and analytic skills, serve as a BSA/AML and Digital Asset expert, and represent BSA/AML at key meetings with business partners and relevant regulatory agencies.
  • The following are highlights of the key responsibilities of this role:
  • Take a proactive approach to understanding the needs and vulnerabilities of the BSA/AML Digital Assets Program to provide recommendations to strengthen the effectiveness of Schwab’s overall BSA/AML Program.
  • Implement and oversee the BSA/ AML Digital Assets Program, focusing on identifying, preventing, and reporting suspicious activities related to money laundering and terrorist financing
  • Build out and lead a highly skilled team in upholding regulatory requirements while implementing and maintaining appropriate risk-based procedures for the BSA/AML Digital Assets Program
  • Take part in key strategic planning to align risk management with the organization’s broader goals, enhancing overall business resilience
  • Stay current on all relevant BSA/AML regulations, guidance, and best practices
  • Participate in regulatory BSA/AML examinations and independent audits
  • Support various BSA/AML Program strategic initiatives

What you have


· 10-15 years of experience in the financial services industry with a deep understanding of BSA/AML laws, regulations, and practices

· Extensive experience working with internal and external stakeholders, including management, board(s) of directors, regulators, and auditors

· 3+ years of experience working in the digital asset space

· Financial crimes program leadership experience at a federally regulated bank or large broker dealer strongly preferred

· Extensive knowledge of the evolving digital asset regulations and compliance requirements, both nationally and internationally

· Strong grasp of the U.S. and international regulatory climate and how regulations will impact operational processes

· Results-oriented with the expertise to quickly sort through information and develop concise and clear strategies and solutions

· Proven leadership experience and ability to drive solutions on highly complex assignments with regulatory and audit implications

· Strong interpersonal skills as evidenced in both verbal and written communications

· Experience identifying and resolving complex issues with various levels of management and business partners

· Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and develop associates in a dynamic team environment

· Bachelor’s degree in Business / Finance or related field preferred

· Series 7, 24 preferred

· CAMS or other similar certification preferred
