The Banking and Move Money (BMM) Technology organization is the heart of the Core Technology Solutions group providing the said business capabilities to Schwab clients. Our mission is to empower and develop our people to provide technology solutions and thought leadership that delivers innovative and cost optimized Banking, Move Money and Sweep capabilities. As a Lead Java Engineer you will be the technical lead on cross-team strategic Java engineering efforts to influence decision and alignment while understanding several teams' testing strategies and using knowledge to educate and participate in strategic planning discussions with technical, business, and various stakeholders. You will design effective solutions that are in line with the organization’s vision and actively participate in product design and development sessions to understand the needs of the business, conduct research on potential options and recommend optimal solution based on context. You will also design effective solutions that are in line with the organization’s vision while supporting teams on critical production issues and providing coaching, mentorship, and career development.

What you have


  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, related degree, OR related practical experience
  • 12+ years of experience of designing and developing large scale software using: Java, Spring framework, Spring Batch, cloud development, Batch and Web Services supporting high volume transactions in a highly available environment.
  • 6+ years of experience in designing, architecting and deploying cloud-native applications on Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF), or AWS or GCP.
  • 4+ years’ experience working with databases like MongoDB, Aerospike, Microsoft SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL.
  • 4+ years Prior experience in IT Transformations and system modernization initiatives from legacy to distributed platforms, i.e., Mainframe Cobol apps/DB2 to Java apps/SQL.
  • Expertise with containerization technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines
  • Proficiency and experience with AI-Driven software development tools such as GitHub Copilot or similar for improving productivity, code comprehension and documentation.
  • Proven experience integrating AI/Machine Learning models for data analytics, visualization and automation.
  • Experience in applying AI/ML to solve business and technical problems
  • Track record of pursuing and maintaining high quality while delivering on tight schedules.
  • Collaborative mindset coupled with a bias for action to effectively engage with all areas of the business including Product Management, Architects, SRE, and dependent domains.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders including offshore teams.
  • Ability to effectively engage subject matter experts and understand technical topics.
  • Demonstrated ability to disagree, present your case with data to support proposal/solution, and commit to deliver regardless of the outcome of the disagreement
  • Demonstrated ability in solution discovery and crafting a design based in engineering principles
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems creatively
  • Track record of mentoring and coaching of multiple teams and being able to lead across domains within organization.
  • Ability to effectively present the Architecture/solutions to the governance boards and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, related degree, OR related practical experience
  • Experience in applying AI/ML in financial service applications such as Customer Behavior Prediction and intelligent client Profiling
  • Good knowledge of messaging technologies (Rabbit MQ, Kafka, or equivalent)
  • Experience in working with/leading multiple teams simultaneously
  • Experience in Financial Services industry
  • Experience in Test Driven Development, QA Automation and Quality mindset and behaviors
  • Proficient in developing Visio diagrams, architectural and design documentations, functional and technical specifications, automated test process
  • Willingness to learn all aspects of tech stack and document
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with the demonstrable ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Experience with Agile methodology and Agile working environment.
  • Experience with the Atlassian tool stack (JIRA and Confluence)
