SAM’s fixed income index strategies team is seeking to add an Associate Portfolio Manager to contribute to the management and oversight of government securities and securitized products within our existing suite of index funds. The successful candidate will have a high degree of ownership and initiative to help execute, automate, and improve the investment process and workflow while collaborating with partner organizations.

The position adheres to Schwab’s workplace policy, requiring employees to work in the office three days per week currently, and increasing to four days per week starting March 2026. The position will be based at Schwab’s corporate headquarters in Westlake, TX (Dallas-Fort Worth).

Key responsibilities for this role include: 

  • Day-to-day responsibility assisting with management and oversight of the taxable bond funds and ETFs with specific sector responsibility for government securities (Treasuries, TIPS, Agency notes) and securitized products (MBS, CMBS, ABS) in an automated and fast-paced environment
  • Contribute to our pursuit of scale, efficiency, and automation by continually questioning existing investment processes and seeking new methods and processes to meet our investment goals
  • Proactively follow and share market and industry developments and research themes; contribute to “thought leadership” across the Taxable Bond team and all CSIM Fixed Income; exhibit a high degree of intellectual curiosity and investing acumen in all areas of the investment landscape, including active strategies
  • Monitor, educate internally, and respond to the evolving market structures of government bond and securitized bond trading
  • Regularly contribute to the creation and maintenance of charts, graphs, presentation materials and related data for team and department meetings
  • Ad-hoc contributions to topics involving teams across SAM including researching items related to accounting, income accrual, and tax considerations, among others

What you have


The ideal candidate is passionate about investing and the global capital markets and has strong quantitative and technical aptitude, including an undergraduate or graduate degree in the following or related areas of study:

  • Statistics, Economics, Finance, Mathematics / Computational Finance, Operations Research, Computer Science, and/or Data Analytics / Science.
  • Candidates with general business or other degrees and demonstrated quantitative experience and expertise may also be considered.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst designation is preferred.
  • Two to five years of experience.

Additional candidate expectations include:

  • Experience using optimization tools and processes, multi-factor risk modeling, and techniques related to the statistical modeling of complex data sets and a working knowledge various programming languages
  • Team player mindset and ability to collaborate across the organization. Natural curiosity, problem solving, demonstrated critical thinking and creativity, and a passion for learning and innovating
  • Effective communicator, both written and verbal, with strong organizational and time-management skills. Detail-oriented; must possess the ability to work efficiently within tight time constraints

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
