Managing Director, Order Routing, Market Structure & Market Data

The Managing Director and his/her team will lead the Order Routing, Market Structure and Market Data groups. This is a uniquely constructed group who assesses the impact of existing and new rules impacting how Schwab introduces order flow to the marketplace, affect our clients trade executions and potential systemic changes to the firm's Order Management Systems. This leader plays a significant role in ensuring Schwab's clients interests and priorities are well articulated to the industry.

Key Outcomes:

  • Serve as the touchpoint with all our market centers and exchanges supporting our order flow.
  • Monitor evolving market structure dynamics and trading venues to ensure our retail brokerage maintains best execution practices and managing strategic decisions around our industry leading execution quality.
  • Manages and analyzes troves of data on a daily, weekly and monthly basis serving as inputs to measure the best performing market centers that executes all Schwab's clients Orders in Listed Equities, Options and OTC.
  • Collaborates internally with our Trading Operations and Trading Services teams on myriad of areas in equities and options trading, especially on new client offerings, i.e., expanding 24/5 Trading to all clients.
  • Manages all the firm's Market Data business functions and contracts with all vendors across equities and options
  • Collaborate closely with STS, Trader Services, Platform teams and serves as the touch point with all U.S. exchanges that provide market data.
  • Collaborate with the finance team as this role entails managing a significant portion of the firm’s transaction trade revenue and expense.
  • Represent the firm on various important industry committees shaping the US markets in equities and options.
  • Frequent collaboration with the industry and meeting with US regulators.
  • Contribute to various white papers and studies advocating for the retail clients.
  • Work closely with Legal and Compliance on various rule proposal comment letters and direct meetings with regulators.

What you have


Required Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in equities/options market structure, order routing or execution strategy at a retail brokerage, market maker, or exchange.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. trading venue dynamics, lifecycle of a trade and order types, regulatory requirements and market microstructure
  • Expertise in Order Management Systems and proficiency in data analytics
  • Deep understanding of the U.S. Options Market and Options products
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements impacting execution and routing (e.g. Reg NMS, Rule 605/606)
  • Deep understanding of Market Data Plans that govern U.S. Equities and Options markets
  • Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills, with a track record of leading cross-functional initiatives
  • Undergraduate degree is required; advance degree is preferred.

  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to develop concise and effective communications tailored to specific audiences.
  • Strong emotional intelligence/maturity and senior level executive presence.
