At Schwab, the Data Architecture team delivers forward-thinking solutions to build highly available, scalable, and reliable platforms, enabling business stakeholders to make informed decisions to help clients own their financial futures. 

We are seeking an innovative thought leader to join our dynamic architecture team--this role will involve shaping data modeling and metadata management strategy to modernize existing data ecosystem. You will develop comprehensive data models utilized across the operational and analytical environments, partner with data architects to support future-ready data architecture solutions, collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure compliance with the Schwab technology standards and proactively identify potential opportunities to improve data modeling and data architecture solutions. Additionally, you will manage and mentor development teams, ensure data models are scalable, and aligned with business needs.

What you’re good at 

  • Developing 3NF, dimensional, Data Vault models to deliver transactional, operational and analytics use cases.
  • Using data modeling tool Erwin, and programming language such as SQL, Python etc.
  • Establishing and enforcing best practices for data modeling, metadata management and data protection.
  • Collaborating with data architects to ensure alignment between data models and the overall data architecture.
  • Optimizing existing data models for performance, reusability, and scalability.
  • Inspiring, motivating and leading data modeling group to deliver pragmatic solutions.
  • Leading design and data modeling sessions and guiding engineering teams in building well-thought solutions.
  • Considering various design options and making well-informed decisions based on merits and risks.
  • Translating complex ideas, technology, and programs into language senior management can relate to and performs as a key influencer on technical decisions that affect the business on a long-term basis
  • Collaborating, influencing, and building consensus through constructive relationships and effective listening
  • Ability to embrace change and serving as a catalyst for transformation.
  • Cross-functional teams collaboration including engineering, product, business and executive leadership.

What you have


Required:

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field
  • 8+ years’ experience in data modeling (both OLTP and OLTA), with at least 5 years in leadership role.
  • 5+ years’ experience in data integration strategies (Batch, real-time and near real-time), database technologies (including SQL, NoSQL and Graph), data analytics, and data observability.
  • 5+ years of data architecture experience is strongly desirable.
  • Strong SQL skills and 3+ years’ experience in cloud technologies such as GCP, AWS.
  • Proficient in developing data modeling standards and best practices.
  • Extensive experience in agile methodologies.
  • Critical-thinking and strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to bridge technical and business stakeholders.
  • Experience in data architecture patterns such as ETL, API, Event processing etc.
  • Hands-on experience in designing relational and analytical databases including cloud-based databases.
  • Strong knowledge in data management practices such as Master Data Management, Reference Data Management etc.
  • Researching industry-best data architecture practices and applying them pragmatically to deliver next-generation data capabilities.
  • Strategic thinking to modernize data ecosystem to deliver current and evolving needs of the business.

Preferred:

  • Functional knowledge of financial banking, stock brokerage or insurance domains is preferred
  • Experience with DevOps and CI/CD is a plus
