Director – Treasury Capital Strategy

Group Objective/Purpose

The Treasury Capital Strategy (TCS) function within the Treasury Corporate Finance Org assesses the regulatory capital adequacy of The Charles Schwab Corporation and various subsidiaries and performs capital analysis on strategic initiatives.

Brief Description of Role Needed

The TCS Director and team play a key role in the overall strategic optimization of the balance sheet with a focus on the analysis of strategic initiatives and 1st line of defense regulatory capital adequacy.  Through collaboration and partnership with critical business partners, stakeholders, and subject matter experts (e.g., liquidity, capital management, credit, interest rate risk, stress testing, controllers, 2nd line of defense, etc.), the TCS Director and team will help ensure that the firm is efficiently utilizing its capital position.  The position can be in San Francisco, Lone Tree, Chicago, or Westlake.  Management responsibility for two to five direct reports.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) 1st line of defense activities
  • Assess internal capital adequacy and optimize the Firm’s capital position in consideration of numerous internal and external factors, in particular ICAAP regulations
  • Support the Treasurer and CFO on ad hoc strategic requests
  • Analyze and form guidance on return on capital of various corporate initiatives
  • Develop related narratives and analytics for key forums such as ALCO
  • Enhance various tools and integrate into the larger FP&A framework
  • Work side-by-side with the Capital Management Team to integrate strategies into the FP&A process
  • Constantly challenge the norm and generate ideas to contribute to the overall balance sheet management process

What you have


Technical/Functional Qualifications Needed

  • A minimum of 10+ years relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or related field is required
  • MBA and/or CFA is preferred, Series 27 license may be required
  • Strong knowledge and demonstrated experience forecasting and managing bank holding company capital, bank subsidiary capital, and broker-dealer net capital
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Bloomberg and other investment software
  • Strong interpersonal and management skill with the ability to build cross-organizational relationships
  • Exposure to trading, investing, and securities operations
