The Community Affairs team resides in the Corporate Affairs Group at Charles Schwab, which is responsible for managing the company's image and reputation. The Community Affairs team's work is focused on helping people of all backgrounds achieve brighter futures by advancing financial literacy and fostering stronger communities.   


We oversee the firm's corporate philanthropic strategy and programs, employee giving and volunteerism, as well as the operations and programs of Charles Schwab Foundation.   

The Community Affairs team is seeking a Community Affairs Senior Specialist to provide cross-functional support to the full Schwab Community Affairs (SCA) team with a concentration on operations.   

Responsibilities include:  

  • Assist with Charles Schwab Foundation’s (CSF) grant making process, including: 
    • Maintain historical grant files and documentations for record retention.
    • Accurately supervise all grant declinations for reporting and grant management purposes.
    • Review grant pre-screening submissions and advance appropriate applications for review, ensuring proper recording of requests, responses, etc.
    • Communicate with CSF grantees to ensure all reporting requirements are fulfilled.
    • Assist with Community Ambassador grant making processes and adherence to timelines and guidelines. 
  • Coordinate components of the SCA payment processes to vendors and grantees, including submitting payment requests in Schwab portals, preparing back up documentation, and resolving payment issues with employees, recipients, and vendors.
  • Provide support to employees related to their community benefits and involvement in key SCA programs, including: 
    • Respond to inquiries from the SCA functional mailboxes.
    • Troubleshoot Employee Matching Gift (EMG) issues and act as a liaison between employees and our EMG vendor, Benevity.
    • Track commonly asked questions and direct employees to appropriate self-serve toolkits and identify needs for new resources. 
  • Ensure all Community Ambassador distribution lists and access permissions are updated in a timely fashion.
  • Coordinate SCA historical data tracking for all programs and key campaigns, keeping data and data sources accurate and up to date for use in reporting, awards nominations, media needs, etc.
  • Assist with pulling data on employee participation in key programs and impact data as needed. 
  • Monitor grant, donation and sponsorship requests from leadership and coordinate responses.
  • Coordinate and track the use of benefits from charitable sponsorships, such as filling tables at events, coordinating program ads, etc.
  • Maintain a year-round SCA programs team calendar.
  • Coordinate event logistics for key SCA annual events as needed.
  • Other related operations and program support as needed.

What you have


To ensure that we fulfill our promise of “challenging the status quo,” this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have: 

Required Qualifications:  

  • 2 - 4 years’ experience working in a fast-paced environment, coordinating complex project details, and juggling multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, including MS Teams.
  • Acuity in learning and using a variety of technology platforms and systems for grant making, data gathering, reporting. 


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with philanthropic strategy and programs, including grants, donations and sponsorship requests.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with PowerAutomate preferred.
  • Efficiency in multi-tasking in support of a fast-paced team.
  • Able to meet firm deadlines across multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong customer service mindset.
  • Good relationship and people skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience with survey tools and data management systems is a plus. 


In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities
