As a Strategic Initiatives and Cloud Architect, you will play a key role in building products that help customers learn, explore, and make life-impacting moves on their paths to achieving their financial and life goals. This position is part of the Office of the CTO organization and is responsible for driving the architecture, strategy and delivery for the most critical and impactful programs at Schwab. The Strategic Initiatives Architects are part of an Elite team of senior architects with deep expertise in end-to-end application architecture of highly resilient applications and cloud and AI technologies, helping shape the future direction for Schwab. You'll work closely with business, product, and technology partners to translate results-oriented business vision and requirements into innovative solution architectures that enables Schwab's highest priority objectives while aligning with our technology strategy.

You will be responsible for defining and implementing architecture and strategies that enable Schwab to scale effectively, adopt emerging technologies such as Gen AI and cryptocurrencies and digital assets and deliver innovative solution. In this role you will set standards, establish patterns and influence technical direction across multiple technology domains to support enterprise agility, new capability and growth. The ideal candidate is a proactive, self-starter who enjoys and thrives on leading and connecting people and technology to solve sophisticated problems at-scale. You will be the Lead Architect for Schwab’s most critical initiatives, integrating Public Cloud, SaaS and multiple technologies across several teams. What you are good at

• Be able to successfully Lead, Design, architect and deliver some of the most critical and complex programs for the company including Cloud and Gen AI
• At least 8 years of experience with Application Architecture and prior software development background,
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience building enterprise, and highly resilient ( 4 9s) and scalable  Cloud solutions and Public Cloud Architecture certification
• Prior experience building architecture and implementing Gen AI applications, Prompt Engineering, Cryptocurrencies and Digital Assets is a plus.
• Ability to drive through technology and solution strategy, with agility and leadership skills which engineers recognize and respect.
• Prior financial services experiences with building software solutions that meet the current and anticipated business needs across a broad set of partners.
• Provide tradeoff evaluation and ability to influence architects and key stakeholders with critical technical and design decisions
• Provide hands-on technical in-depth evaluation of an emerging technology and guidance for how to get from the current state to the target state
• Design for both functional and non-functional qualities, including availability, resiliency, security, privacy, etc.
• Review, advise, and provide feedback on architectures produced within and outside the team.
• Lead the end-to-end solution design and architecture for key company initiatives.
• Present architecture and innovative ideas to executive leadership for the purposes of alignment and key decision making

What you have

Required Qualifications

• A min of 8 years of experience designing large, complex and highly scalable enterprise application architecture solutions
• Minimum 5 years of experience architecting and deploying enterprise applications in Public Cloud, Gen AI is a Plus.
• Self-starter, passion for Technology and staying ahead of industry trends
• Ability to own and communicate a strategic architecture vision across the organization as well as drive and influence architecture direction both directly and indirectly
• Strong business acumen and the ability to work across domains to deliver value
• Experience with modern architecture patterns: cloud-native patterns, microservices, cloud-native, event sourcing, dependency injection, RAGs, etc.
• Understanding of operational and non-functional concerns: scalability, resilience, performance, maintainability, etc.
• Knowledge of 12-factor application and cloud-native infrastructure design
• Experience building Generative AI applications, Agentic AI, Crypto technologies and digital assets is a plus
• Excellent communication and presentation skills for both executive and technical audiences
• Strong software engineering background is required
