Schwab Data is critical to the future of Schwab, as we seek to embrace and support new ways of using data (GenAI), embed additional insights and data-driven processes in our business, and respond to evolving needs and expectations in data governance. The Schwab Data organization collectively focuses on data strategy, data analytics, data science, data governance, and data engineering, while simultaneously enhancing data impact and data safety for our business and our clients. We will advance our impact in line with evolving data/analytics/AI technology and reinforce our ability to safely, responsibly, intentionally, and broadly utilize data, analytics, and AI.

Within Schwab Data, the Data Risk Enhancement team’s purpose is to strengthen our capabilities to identify and mitigate data risk at the firm. The team will serve as the first line of defense for the firm, partnering with data, analytics and AI professionals across the firm. Collectively, this team will drive the firm’s ability to manage all aspects of data risk while improving the productivity of our data professionals.

You will be part of a new team charged with enhancing our Data Governance Operating Model. You will be part of the team defining a strategy to organize and coordinate our data management into business domains so as to provide a structured and understandable framework for data usage and application of governance requirements.  You will develop a taxonomy of relevant business data subject areas and assign data elements into their appropriate areas.  Working across technology and business teams you will define roadmaps for how to enhance our risk posture for these subject areas and mobilize teams to implement enhancements. You will collaborate with stakeholders to operationalize risk metrics, track progress through a small reporting suite the team will create and maintain for the firm and escalate emerging risks or issues to senior management. You will mobilize resources to resolve risks or issues and report on the progress to senior management.   

What you have

Experience in identifying, analyzing and resolving data risk related issues – especially as it relates to data integrity, security and privacy.  A track record of anticipating potential risks and implementing preventative solutions.  A deep understanding of how data risk impacts business processes and a pragmatic approach to balance risk with business goals. 

Experience with ambiguous problem solving and critical thinking to drive towards clear tactics.  An ability to manage implementation of solutions requiring the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently and within deadlines. 

Strong communications skills, able to demonstrate past successes in active listening and seeking clarity with stakeholders, confidence in presentations or public speaking, and impactful written communications.

Strong analytical skills and ability to determine root cause of a changing metric.

Proficiency in data governance and risk management tools and methodologies.

Experience with database querying languages like SQL and familiarity with data structure and data administration policies.

Experience in the use or development of process and capabilities across various aspects of data, data management, data governance, data analytics and/or data science.

Strong detail-orientation and the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or 5+ years in data related fields
• 3+ year hands on experience in on data strategy, data analytics, data science, data governance, and / or data engineering
• 3+ year hands on experience delivery of reporting solutions that quantify risk
• Proven track record leading and developing business change initiatives

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with and understanding of project management, agile planning and change management process in Schwab along with related tools like Jira
• Ability to navigate and be successful in a highly matrixed organization
• Focused and versatile team player that is comfortable under pressure and with evolving objectives
• Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
