Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Strategy and Governance is a core department within the Enterprise and Operational Risk Management (EORM) organization and is responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining and continuously improving Schwab’s ERM Program. ERM Strategy and Governance supports Schwab in managing and mitigating risks within risk appetite across risk categories using a consistent risk management process that enables effective risk identification and assessment, response, measurement and monitoring, and reporting and escalation through Schwab’s integrated risk governance structure.  We support achieving Schwab’s “Through Client’s Eyes” strategy by evolving and executing the Company’s best-in-class risk management program in alignment with achieving our objectives to grow, operate effectively, scale and increase efficiency while developing and retaining top talent.

Reporting to the Director of Entity, Product and Project Risk Oversight, this role is responsible for supporting programs related to independent Second Line of Defense risk assessments, including holistic evaluations of the risk and control environment, Legal Entity Change Risk, Products and Services Risk, and Project Risk. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter with a background in risk analysis who is eager to learn new and emerging business areas and related risks, is enthusiastic about contributing to projects outside of their immediate scope and prioritizes collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve our Company objectives. 

What you’ll do:

You will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Assist in the execution and monitoring of risk assessment programs, including process facilitation, data collection, stakeholder alignment and risk analysis to support informed decision making by senior leadership and governing bodies.
  • Support the development and interpretation of success criteria and related monitoring, including key performance indicators and key risk indicators related to end-to-end process quality and efficiency, cross-functional dependencies, and voice of internal customer.
  • Develop and execute back testing and other analytical routines to identify and manage opportunities for improvement in a departmental roadmap with reporting on the progress of thematic initiatives.
  • Develop and design presentation decks that effectively communicate risk program objectives, promote training and awareness, and highlight success criteria and performance and risk measures to key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate recurring end-to-end program and risk reporting and review cycles (e.g., business and risk reviews, inventory pipeline reports, quarterly summaries, and committee reporting).
  • Support technology enablement across risk programs, including sourcing business requirements, supporting testing and deployment, and managing related change implementation.
  • Maintain team-owned tools, trackers, and documentation systems related to risk management activities, training and testing efforts.
  • Support quality control, quality assurance and adherence monitoring across risk programs, including assuring the appropriate risk response and remediation.
  • Provide project, change, and issue management support for strategic and operational initiatives, including facilitating meetings, developing and administering plans, managing timelines and artifacts, and reporting on progress to completion.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience within a financial services environment.
  • Strong analytical and data visualization skills with the ability to inform and persuade both verbally and written to achieve business strategy and risk management objectives.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, PowerPoint and Excel), SharePoint, and MS Teams.
  • Experience working in a risk management environment and familiarity with regulatory standards and risk frameworks.
  • Team player with a bias for action and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple risk management activities in a changing environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in all businesses and at all levels of the firm.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills with ability to deliver context in a concise and impactful manner.
  • Able to act decisively in making solid, informed decisions to achieve deliverables within constrained timelines.
  • Anticipates potential obstacles and develops contingency plans to overcome them.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or business equivalent is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with GRC and data visualization tools is a plus (e.g., Appian, OpenPages, and Tableau).
  • Project and change management experience a plus.
