The Senior Manager will be a part of Schwab Asset Management (SAM). The overall SAM team is passionately committed to providing solutions that help Schwab clients achieve their financial goals.

Schwab Asset Management offers a focused lineup of competitively priced ETFs, mutual funds and separately managed account (SMA) strategies designed to serve the central needs of most investors.

Schwab Asset Management (SAM) is the asset management arm of the Charles Schwab Corporation, and has $1.6 trillion under management in mutual funds, ETFs, and SMAs. Products managed include a wide variety of active and indexed equity, fixed income, multi-asset, asset allocation strategies, and

money markets funds.

The Senior Manager of Business Unit Risk is responsible for the various oversight and operational risk management of all functional business areas for SAM. Operational Risk management functions includes risk and controls self-assessments, Complementary User Entity Controls (CUEC) review for external vendors, policies and procedures support, operational event research, and promoting day-to-day risk management culture and relationship with the SAM business teams. This position will be able to step in and troubleshoot and assist other team members in various ad hoc projects as needed. This position will be responsible for individual growth and development. The role requires excellent presentation development, subject matter expertise, strong attention to detail, and a focus on relationship building.

In this role you will:

  • Craft high-level presentations that effectively communicate key ideas, strategies, and data to stakeholders, including executive leaders, using clear visuals and concise language to ensure engagement and understanding
  • Document and understand operating events, including detailed records of the event, incident reports, and performance metrics, to ensure accurate tracking and analysis for continuous improvement
  • Monitoring, review and metrics reporting of client/shareholder complaints for SAM including funds, ETFs and SMAs
  • Support the implementation of a sustainable, best in class risk management culture across SAM
  • Support the RCSA including data management RCSA mapping, regulation to RCSA mapping, control updates, and control testing
  • Help identify and report Business Self-Identified issues and action plans
  • Build effective relationships with risk leads across various functions of the business, including other key stakeholders such as other risk team members and business team leaders
  • Regular interaction and relationship building with SAM leadership, Compliance, Internal Audit, WAS Risk and other risk management relevant second line partners.
  • Successful attributes for this role include a strong attention to detail and applying problem-solving skills.
  • You possess solid organizational skills, presentation skills, comfort with ambiguity, an ability to manage effectively in the face of shifting priorities, as well as a curious disposition.
  • SAM is a matrixed organization, thus, the successful candidate displays outstanding collaboration skills and has experience with building partnerships.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years overseeing risk management and/or policies and controls related areas within a financial services organization with a focus on Investment Management
  • Broad experience and understanding of controls as it relates to Investment Management and Risk Operations

Preferred:

  • Leverage strategic and analytical capabilities to make sound, timely decisions based on available information taking into consideration fiduciary and corporate responsibilities
  • Able to act decisively in making solid, informed judgment calls in response to the critical regulatory environment and the day-to-day business issues
  • Strong relationship management and negotiation skills required with the ability to assess and effectively communicate risk and control solutions
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to design presentations
  • Highly collaborative; navigates and activates alignment across organizational silos as well as the enterprise as a whole
  • Thrives on initiating, building and cultivating strong authentic relationships inside and outside the group
  • An undergraduate degree is required; Advanced degree preferred

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities
