Tax and Cost Basis Operations is a part of the Custody & Asset Services division of Operational Services. The Senior Specialist in Cost Basis Operations will provide dedicated support and technical expertise to Schwab clients. Our mission is to provide prompt, thorough, and complete service through collaborative partnerships with Partner Support, Investor Services, Advisor Services, and the Accommodations groups.  Additionally, we provide work-item escalation support to these groups in responses from client and field inquiries. We’re searching for experienced, team-focused individuals to own prioritized work items pertaining to households with wealth over 10 million dollars at Charles Schwab.  Below outlines a summary of additional responsibilities for this role:

  • Provide exceptional, prompt, and thorough service to our ultra-high net worth clients when researching cost basis inquiries and processing cost basis updates.
  • Engage in a dialogue to identify additional needs and present effective help and influence solutions
  • Exhibit a passion for client service, positive energy, and problem-solving skills to assist Schwab clients fulfill their requests
  • Establish clear points of contact for one-stop resolution and for ongoing support and escalations
  • Demonstrate flexibility and work collaboratively with other team members to deliver high quality service and meet client expectations
  • Manage multiple tasks effectively by balancing high productivity with excellent service quality
  • Serve as a senior member of the team, providing documentary decision-making assistance as well as escalation support for complex situations including client escalations
  • Understanding of Cost Basis IRS regulations when approving or processing client requests - taking into consideration, business, brand, financial, and regulatory risk

What you have


Qualifications:

  • 2 - 5 years of experience within Cost Basis Operations preferred
  • Series 7, 63 or 66 preferred
  • College degree or equivalent experience in Accounting, Finance or Economics
  • Solid analytical skills and ability to multi-task to perform multiple complex tasks with a superior level of attention to detail; Can operate with little instructions on day-to-day work with general direction on assignments
  • Excellent communication skills (English) both verbal and written; will be responsible for reviewing, editing, and sharing feedback on communication created by other team members
  • Advanced MS Excel skills, ability to work with large data sets
  • Proven tax and cost basis experience and knowledge framework
  • Expertise in tax and cost basis reporting topics, such as impact of return of capital transactions, corporate actions, fixed income amortization/accretion, etc.
  • Passion for working in a team environment-contributing toward departmental and team goals and objectives. Peer influence skills a must as Senior Specialist will be required to help drive and support change
  • Positive attitude, enthusiasm, professionalism and strong work ethic with high level of integrity and ethics

  • Thoroughness: Ensuring that one’s own and other’s work and information are complete and accurate; careful preparation for meetings and presentations; following up with others to ensure that agreements and commitments have been fulfilled
  • Results Orientation: Has a strong sense of urgency about solving problems and getting work done. Focusing on the desired end result of one's own or one's units work; setting challenging goals, focusing effort on the goals, and meeting or exceeding them

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities
