The Financial Planning team within Wealth and Asset Management (WAM) Engineering builds technology solutions that help clients plan for their financial futures with confidence and clarity. As a Backend Developer, Specialist, you will contribute to the design, development, and evolution of scalable backend services that power Schwab’s financial planning experiences. Working alongside engineers, architects, DevOps professionals, and business partners, you will help deliver reliable, high-performing applications that support meaningful client outcomes while advancing Schwab’s mission of client-centric innovation. 


In this role, you'll apply your expertise in backend development, API design, distributed data management, and software engineering practices to solve complex technical challenges and improve platform capabilities. You will contribute to modern engineering practices including trunk-based development, automated testing, continuous integration and deployment, service discovery, and cloud-enabled solutions. Your ability to collaborate across teams, evaluate technical tradeoffs, and adapt to evolving business and technology needs will help drive high-quality solutions that are scalable, resilient, and maintainable.

What you have


To ensure that we fulfill our promise of “challenging the status quo,” this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of experience developing applications and services using C#, .NET Core, and ASP.NET
  • 3+ years of experience designing, building, and supporting backend services and distributed applications
  • 3+ years of experience working with relational and NoSQL databases, including Microsoft SQL Server and NoSQL technologies
  • Experience building, consuming, and supporting RESTful APIs that enable scalable, high-availability solutions '
  • Experience working with event-driven architectures or messaging platforms such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies
  • Experience utilizing source control platforms such as GitHub or Bitbucket within collaborative development environments 
  • Demonstrated ability to apply problem solving skills to analyze technical challenges, evaluate solutions, and deliver high-quality outcomes
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to partner effectively across technical and non-technical teams 
  • Experience creating automated unit and integration tests to improve software quality, reliability, and maintainability 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 3+ years of experience with Java and Spring Boot development
  • Experience supporting or building CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, Bamboo, or similar platforms
  • Experience working with cloud technologies, including Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Pivotal Cloud Foundry, or comparable environments '
  • Experience operating within financial services or other highly regulated industries 
  • Experience leveraging Microsoft Copilot or similar AI-powered productivity tools to improve development efficiency 
  • Demonstrated adaptability and commitment to continuous learning in a rapidly evolving technology environment
  • Experience participating in Agile Collaboration and cross-functional software delivery teams 
  • Ability to influence technical decisions through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and strong engineering practices

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities
