- For aspiring advisors: Our WMA is built for people who are curious, motivated learners and passionate about helping clients navigate important financial decisions. It’s ideal if you’re starting your career and looking for a guided path into a client-focused finance role.
- Structured career launch: As a full-time Schwab employee in the Wealth & Advice Solutions organization, you gain practical experience and industry credentials in a supportive environment – giving you a strong foundation for long-term growth in wealth management.
Why Schwab Created the Wealth Management Academy
Client expectations are evolving. More individuals are seeking personalized financial guidance, long-term planning support, and trusted relationships with advisors who understand their goals.
To meet that demand, Schwab continues to invest in building a strong pipeline of future advisors who are prepared to deliver high-quality client experiences. The WMA was created as part of that effort.
As Kevin S., a Director in Early Talent Development and part of the WMA Leadership team explains:
“The Wealth Management Academy was created to transform the wealth management talent landscape at Schwab to become younger and more diverse… it seeks to attract high-potential, recent college graduates and accelerate their development to become an advisor at Schwab.”
By developing talent early and intentionally, WMA supports Schwab’s long-term growth while strengthening the quality and consistency of the client experience. Participants are not only learning technical concepts here; they are forming the judgment, communication skills, and client-first mindset needed to be effective in wealth advisory roles.
What You’ll Learn in the Wealth Management Academy
Our WMA equips you with both the technical knowledge and the people skills required for a successful career in financial planning. Over the course of the program, you’ll gain:
Licensing and certification supportParticipants receive support as they work toward key industry licenses and certifications, including the Series 7 and Series 66, while also progressing toward the CFP designation. Dedicated time, structured learning, and guided preparation help participants build a strong technical foundation early in their careers.
Hands-on experience and real-world application
Here, learning is paired with application. Participants begin to use their knowledge in real client scenarios, gaining exposure to financial planning conversations, portfolio discussions, and the broader wealth management process.
Academy graduate Cailley B., who is now a Wealth Advisor, shares her perspective on applying what she learned over her 15 months in the WMA:
“After completing licensing, you begin taking client calls, then move into building financial plans and reviewing portfolios. By the time you graduate, you have hands-on experience across a broad range of wealth management topics, which helps accelerate your career growth.”
Coaching and mentorship
Throughout the program, participants receive ongoing feedback and support from experienced leaders and mentors. This guidance helps translate learning into action and reinforces consistent growth.
Matt T., another academy graduate who was recently promoted to Wealth Advisor, adds:
“The WMA helped me build confidence through the various FINRA exams, the CFP Cohort, and moving through the rotations. Each segment of training added skills to my skillset that carried over into the next rotation.”
Together, these elements create a development experience that builds both capability and confidence over time.
What Does the Experience Look Like?
The WMA is structured to help participants progress from foundational learning to real-world application in a clear and supported way.
Early in the program, participants focus on onboarding and licensing preparation. As they move forward, they begin applying those skills in increasingly complex scenarios, developing confidence in how to approach client conversations and financial planning decisions.
Progress is supported through regular coaching, feedback, and defined development milestones. Participants are not expected to navigate the experience on their own. They are guided through each phase with clear expectations and consistent mentorship.
Bilal A., a Sr Manager in the Schwab Wealth Advisory who leads a team that hires WMA graduates, has seen this transformation firsthand:
“Participants experience accelerated professional growth due to the depth and intensity of the program. The Wealth Management Academy fast-tracks individuals by equipping them with a significant amount of industry knowledge in a short time frame.”
This progression from learning to application helps participants build readiness for client-facing roles while developing the confidence to contribute early in their careers.
What Happens After the Wealth Management Academy?
One of the most important aspects of the program is what comes next.
After completing the Wealth Management Academy, participants move into roles within Schwab’s Wealth and Advice organization, including:
- Associate Wealth Advisor
- Wealth Advisor
- Financial Planner
These roles allow individuals to continue developing their expertise while taking on greater responsibility in supporting clients.
Matt T. reflects on how the program prepared him:
“The rotations gave me the building blocks and networking opportunities to meet people across the organization and reach my current role of Wealth Advisor. Each experience prepared me for the next step in my career.”
The program is designed as a starting point, not an endpoint. It provides the foundation for long-term career progression within Schwab’s wealth management business.
