Schwab’s AI Engineering & Ops team is seeking a talented and driven Java Web Application Engineer to help build scalable, high-quality solutions that enhance decision-making and elevate client experiences. In this role, you’ll be part of a dynamic team supporting emerging AI initiatives that are foundational to Schwab’s digital transformation. You’ll engage in a balanced mix of design leadership and hands-on development, contributing to cloud-first architectures and modern engineering practices.

What you have


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field
  • 3+ years’ experience leading code reviews, driving code quality, maintaining best practices for software engineering, and ensuring test-driven development
  • Minimum of 5+ years designing and deploying software in the cloud (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)
  • 5+ years’ experience in Java programming with hands-on experience in web application development
  • 3+ years’ experience with the development and deployment of microservices
  • 3+ years’ experience demonstrating professional integration with complex data sets, databases and SQL
  • Minimum 5+ years demonstrating the following critical skills or expertise in a professional senior level software engineering role:
    • Critical-thinking and strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and understand data
    • A mindset for continuous improvement, agility, and ownership, with an emphasis on innovation and change management
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment
    • Demonstrates ability to work effectively with cross-functional technical and business teams to define, build, and release high-quality features
    • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies as well as to continuously improve individual skills and knowledge
    • Familiarity with web technologies and frameworks like Spring Boot or Angular is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's of Science or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or a related field
  • Skills and experience with cloud infrastructure such as Cloud Foundry, AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Demonstrated expertise of database design and development (SQL and NoSQL)
  • Proven understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, and microservices architecture
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools and practices (CI/CD pipelines, GitHub, Terraform, etc.)
  • Skills and experience with security protocols, Identity & Access Management (IAM), and compliance frameworks relevant to the financial services industry
  • Skills and experience developing and maintaining a robust monitoring framework that tracks performance metrics and logs critical events to ensure high availability and reliability
  • Demonstrated expertise testing and debugging to ensure the delivery of high-quality software
  • Understanding of how to establish and test disaster recovery plans that ensure rapid restoration of services and implement failover mechanisms and redundant systems
