The Operational Services organization at Schwab partners with teams across the firm to deliver on service promises to Schwab clients. We are responsible for best-in-class service, protecting and safeguarding the assets of the firm and our clients, all while increasing scalability and efficiency.

Within Operational Services, the Transformation Solutions Platforms (TSP) is a cross-functional group that is helping to drive transformation across Operational Services and the broader firm. We use a variety of methodologies, tools and capabilities to drive large-scale change. We partner with teams across Schwab to deliver best-in-class experience, service, and processing solutions for our clients and advisors.

TSP enables Schwab’s Smart Processing strategy, which is at the center of Schwab’s sustainable competitive advantage. Smart Processing requires end-to-end, ecosystem strategy, vision, planning, and execution. A key platform in this strategy is SPO (Smart Processing Orchestrator) which is our service orchestration and automation platform that receives client requests from various channels and automates the processing or routes requests internally to support operational workflows while managing queuing and synchronous/asynchronous requests.

Brief Description of Role

As a SPO Product Owner on the platform, individuals will have responsibility for the orchestration capability in support of cross-enterprise transformative initiatives. This requires the ability to collaborate across disparate upstream and downstream teams and systems while ensuring timely delivery to meet complex cross-enterprise roadmap goals and objectives. Success requires ability to: 

  • Lead a scrum team in an Agile environment, continuously understanding and developing solutions for business needs, prioritizing the platform backlog based on business value, managing risks by making good trade-off decisions, and communicating key milestones and deliverables.
  • Solve firm/user problems through new and/or evolved strategic enterprise capabilities, building and aligning technology partners and cross-firm and TST business, product, architecture, and platform teams on capability vision & strategy.
  • Establish strong partnerships across Product, Business Architecture, Technology and Product Owner peers to shape platform capabilities and design solutions that represent end-to-end business needs.
  • Partner with the technology team leaders to execute on key components of platform evolution and agile development.

Main Functions

  • Lead a scrum team in the Product Owner role through maintenance of a backlog of groomed user stories with acceptance criteria and clear value differentiation while supporting all Agile scrum ceremonies and making appropriate trade-off decisions to meet business delivery commitments while ensuring scalability and platform performance metrics are maintained or improved.
  • Accountable for successful platform roadmap implementation through Agile development and coordination with internal and external domains as well as strategic product partnerships to maintain a now/next/later view of the platform and required evolution

What You’re Great At

  • Product ownership in Agile scrum methodology: Maintaining a relentless value focus while earning the trust of technical teams to make the right scope trade-offs to deliver against delivery commitments while maintaining solution quality and scalability. This includes a demonstrated ability to ‘say no’ respectfully while strongly and openly collaborating with business and technical partners to develop solutions that balance platform and ecosystem needs with business delivery.
  • Technical analysis: Strong analytical and technical orientation with attention to detail at the platform level while liaising with upstream and downstream domain partners to maintain and respond to broader Schwab architectural view.
  • Highly collaborative and flexible: drive outcomes with cross-firm teams and continuously prioritize and adjust solutions based on changing firm priorities, resources, and technology capabilities. Maintain a ‘One Schwab’ mindset.
  • Subject-matter Expertise (SME): possess general understanding of Schwab’s business lines and end-users personas while demonstrating strong technical command of current SPO platform architecture and relationship to broader Schwab domain architecture.

Qualifications

  • Education: BA required, 7+ years of relevant work experience required including:
  • 5+ years of experience with operational Legacy integrations in a large enterprise
  • 5+ years in product owner role on Agile teams
  • 3+ years of experience in financial services a plus
  • 1+ years of experience with AI a plus (GitHub and Copilot)
