Managing Director, Human Resources Business Partner

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Managing Director of HR Advisory Services, the Managing Director, Human Resources Business Partner will lead an HRBP team responsible for providing support to assigned Executive Council leaders and their senior leadership teams.   The MD, HRBP will lead a highly visible HRBP team in diagnosing, translating, and defining current and future business needs into integrated annual talent plans for the assigned client businesses.  The MD will be responsible for leading, coaching and developing HRBPs to be trusted advisors to senior leaders on topics across the talent spectrum including but not limited to leadership team dynamics, organizational design, acquisition integration efforts, and annual HR programs.   

The position will be located in Westlake, TX.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serving as change agent and member of an assigned client senior leadership team to help drive strategic growth plans and objectives across the client organization
  • Building and maintaining awareness of talent across business organizations; leading team in assessing talent, strengthening succession plans, closing talent or capability gaps, and identifying options for talent exchanges across Schwab
  • Initiating and maintaining effective communication with senior business leaders to deliver high quality, proactive HR consultation that enables the attainment of strategic business goals and critical initiatives considering client growth objectives
  • Leading a team in delivery of organizational development interventions and consultation including leadership transitions, change management, pay and performance analysis, and improvement of employee engagement and productivity
  • Ensuring team effectively and successfully engages senior stakeholders to understand, influence and define talent priorities for their business while also implementing and delivering strategic HR initiatives and annual HR programs for assigned client businesses
  • Leading by example in collaborative efforts with HR Center of Expertise partners (Talent Acquisition, Compensation, HR Consulting, Workforce Data & Analytics) to deliver integrated HR services and solutions tailored to the client businesses; ensuring Schwab’s HR model and resources are leveraged appropriately for increased scale and consistent service delivery
  • Developing objectives, implementing best practices, and fostering engagement and accountability for team members; coaching and development of team members as well as thoughtful and effective goal setting and performance management
  • Increasing bench and succession strength of HRBP talent and identifying opportunities for talent exchanges across the HRBP team and the broader HR function
  • Managing complex HR and talent issues while ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory standards

What you have


Qualifications & Experience

  • A minimum of 12 years’ leadership experience in a Human Resources function
  • A minimum of eight years’ experience working as a Human Resources Business Partner
  • A minimum of six years’ experience in a people leader role managing a team
  • Strong track record of leading and developing team members, ensuring strong engagement of team in addition to effective, timely delivery of results
  • A trusted and respected advisor to senior business leaders who leads by example in demonstrating relevance, influence, and delivery
  • Proven ability to lead critical projects including the capability to pivot from strategic aspects to operational details  
  • Significant experience leveraging data and analytics to drive recommendations to the business and influence decision-making
  • Proven ability to build collaborative relationships with colleagues and offer recommendations for process or program improvements while maintaining trust and collaboration
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute competing tasks and demands, able to pivot quickly based on evolving HR and business needs
  • Proven success leading, managing, and coaching a team across multiple geographies
  • A skilled and responsive communicator, both verbal and written, with strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience working in a variety of Human Resources roles and functions preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • Ability to travel as dictated by business needs (estimated 20%)
