The Advisor Services, Wealth & Asset Management Technology (AWAT) group within Schwab Technology Services (STS) is responsible for the applications, services, platforms and technologies required to deliver a suite of solutions for Schwab's Advisor Services (AS), Wealth & Advise Solutions business (WAS) and Schwab Asset Management (SAM) business.

Advisor Services, Wealth & Asset Management Technology Operations (AWAT Ops)  is responsible for Platform health & operational excellence, cloud & infrastructure management, incident response & problem management, platform observability, instrumentation & security, change & release management and special ops programs & initiatives for all AWAT applications, services & platforms.

The Director, Software Development & Engineering, Platform Infrastructure & Engineering, will report to the Head of Advisor Services, Wealth & Asset Management Technology Operations (AWAT Ops) and will be responsible for AWAT Infrastructure Operations, Security, Threat & Vulnerability management, Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery (CICD), Operational tools & Automation capabilities. The role will be responsible for bridging the gap between AWAT infrastructure, security, devops and automation strategy & execution, through centralized management of all related programs to achieve AWAT strategic operational objectives.

What you are good at

  • Develop & lead the platform technology strategy for infrastructure, security & devops transformation and modernization, and execute the strategic roadmap in line with platform standards, engineering practices, governance processes and operational controls.
  • Lead infrastructure lifecycle programs, including hardware refreshes, operating system upgrades, capacity management & scaling, data center migrations, technology currency initiatives, software maintenance, patching, vendor advisories, & security remediation activities. Lead capacity forecasting, performance analytics, and utilization planning to support current & future business demand. Lead business continuity, disaster recovery & resiliency testing and recovery exercises.
  • Lead DevOps platform services, including shared CICD tooling, deployment platforms, engineering runtime services and developer enablement platforms. Drive continuous improvement through automation, tool rationalization & optimization and embedding AI into operational workflows to drive operational efficiencies.
  • Ensure platform compliance with enterprise security standards, regulatory requirements, audit controls, risk management frameworks and lead the management & execution of all security remediation programs.
  • Partner with Managing Directors, Directors, Sr. Managers & Architects peers across STS, particularly Infrastructure & Operations, Schwab Cybersecurity Services, Enterprise Delivery Enablement, and other STS SAvE teams, to influence broader scale infrastructure strategy & Implementation, remediation of infrastructure resiliency & application security risks, tooling, automation, and methodology consistency.
  • Consistent delivery against high priority, often complex and multi-dimensional commitments.Closely partner with Managing Directors, Directors, Sr. Managers & Architects across AWAT to influence the continuous improvement of infrastructure deployment and devops practices that will streamline the QA to Production pipeline. Partner with the business & technology partners to communicate platform health, and influence and drive priority on availability ahead of releasing new business capabilities.
  • Deliver business value through efficient, disciplined and predictable project execution of effective solutions to business problems and opportunities. Facilitate the optimization of AWAT Ops portfolio investments through objective and transparent oversight, governance, data management, and reporting processes.  
  • Direct people leadership of Infrastructure, security and devops people leaders & engineers. Establish workforce development, succession planning, technical training, and knowledge sharing/transform programs. Support a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and engagement as well as risk management to proactively identify and manage risk.

What you have


Required:

  • A minimum of 15 years in Information Technology field with experience in Enterprise Infrastructure, IT Operations, Cloud/Platform Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or related technology domains. A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience leading or overseeing Enterprise Infrastructure, IT Operations, Cloud/Platform Engineering, DevOps Platform Services or related technology operations functions, working in capacities with decision making and accountability for related operational programs, specifically across highly availability applications, distributed systems and technology delivery in a complex, diversified financial services environment.
  •  Strong understanding & experience of on prem and Cloud platforms & environments, including compute, storage, virtualization, backup/recovery, networks, observability, databases and applications / application support or equivalent. Experience operating hybrid, multi cloud estate across Google Cloud, AWS, Azure with 24X7 reliability, elastic scale, optimized cost & performance. Experience with DevOps platform services, including shared CICD tooling, deployment platforms, engineering runtime services and engineer enablement platforms.
  •  Strong business influence skills and able to shape, define and present a complete and thorough picture of Schwab’s security & controls environment including developing thoughtfully written action plans, well-executed remediation’s and clear/regular communication to executive management
  • Results oriented leader who takes the initiative and effectively distills strategy, analytics, and varied sets of input to drive to decisions and follow through to execution. Able to act decisively in making solid, informed judgment calls in response to both the technological and critical regulatory environment and the day-to-day business issues. Experience in successfully leading change through complex environments and organizational structures.
  • Experienced in effectively assessing, selecting and developing talent for the firm; adept at providing balanced, direct and actionable feedback to employees. Experience managing multiple priorities and overseeing distinct teams with varied strengths.
  • Thrives on initiating, building and cultivating strong authentic relationships inside and outside the group; highly collaborative; navigates and activates alignment across organizational silos. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

Preferred:

  • Technology Operations experience with Institutional, Advisor Services, Digital Advice, Financial Planning & Wealth business applications preferred.
