Position Responsibilities:

As a Performance Test Engineer, you will need to be a self-starter who partners well with others. This role is all about getting the job done, so you have a can/will do mentality about all tasks associated with driving a phenomenal performance engineering culture in the org. You prioritize mentoring your teammates, and you ask for help when needed. In this role, you will:

  • Help build a critical part of Schwab’s growth in the Workplace market. 
  • Build scalable platforms supporting critical workplace applications under the Retirement Plan Services organization supporting millions of participants.  
  • Be a part of modernization initiatives, including API and foundational system improvements that enable faster, safer integration and partnerships  
  • Improve platform stability, performance, and resilience to reduce risk and deliver seamless experiences at scale  
  • Modernize legacy components to address high risk remediation and compliance while maintaining industry leading standards  
  • Leverage AI to innovate processes and outcomes for maximum efficiency and quality.   
  • Be part of a collaborative team where you aren’t an “order taker” but an influencer.

What you have


Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of performance engineering experience
  • Experienced in developing performance engineering processes, policies, procedures, metrics and standards for performance engineering and leading efforts to implement those.
  • Will analyze performance results to identify bottlenecks and suggest optimizations, participate in discussions and planning with development and will design and implement overhead, scalability, stability, and stress tests using industry standard tools and developed software.
  • Proficient in end-to-end performance assurance, early performance assessment, and validation of commercial and non-commercial on-premises and cloud-based applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to build or configure tools to conduct performance tests.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot etc.) to accelerate performance testing cycles, including leveraging custom Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers to extend AI context into our proprietary internal services and modernize team workflows.
  • Strong overall architectural understanding of large systems development with a focus on performance.
  • Expertise in identifying and resolving performance issues on a variety of server subsystems (CPU, Memory, Threads, I/O, etc.) and operating system counters.
  • Designed and Developed automated Performance, Stability, Scalability, and Reliability tests.
  • Extensive experience in Performance Testing and Monitoring tools such as JMeter/Blazemeter, Splunk, AppDynamics, Thousand Eyes, etc. 
  • Confidence using C#, .NET Core, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Experience with Angular, TypeScript, and client side MV* frameworks
  • Familiarity grasp of SQL fundamentals with hands-on experience interfacing backend services with relational databases
  • Understanding of Agile software development principles, including experience participating in a Scrum-based delivery team
  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
