As a Software Development Engineer II, you will help deliver reliable, scalable software solutions that support Schwab’s commitment to exceptional client experiences. Working within an agile engineering environment, you will contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, and operational support of software products while building deeper technical expertise and business knowledge.

In this role, you will solve routine and moderately complex technical challenges, collaborate across engineering and partner teams, and take ownership of smaller initiatives from planning through production support. You will apply sound engineering judgment, improve operational efficiency through automation and monitoring, and help ensure the quality, performance, and reliability of the systems you support. Success in this role requires strong problem-solving abilities, a collaborative mindset, continuous learning, and a focus on delivering outcomes that positively impact clients, business partners, and the broader engineering organization.

What you have


Required Qualifications

  • 1+ years of hands-on software development experience.
  • Working knowledge of software engineering practices including software design, application development, testing, code review, source control, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
  • Understanding algorithms, data structures, and fundamental computer science concepts.
  • Experience analyzing technical problems, identifying root causes, and implementing effective solutions.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, business partners, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, tools, processes, and business domains in a structured environment.
  • Proven ability to manage priorities, maintain accountability, and deliver high-quality work with limited supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience contributing to cloud-based, distributed, or scalable software systems.
  • Experience implementing monitoring, observability, automation, or operational improvements.
  • Familiarity with agile software development methodologies.
  • Experience mentoring peers, supporting onboarding efforts, or contributing to team knowledge sharing.
  • Knowledge of software performance, reliability, and scalability best practices.

In addition to the salary range, this role is eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
