Joining us means becoming part of a global team where your work matters and your future can take shape.

Our Hyderabad location is central to Schwab’s growth, bringing together talented people and technology to drive innovation, scale and efficiency. Here, you will work alongside teams who create solutions that support millions of clients every day. The work you do is more than daily operations – it’s a chance to experiment, learn, and build within a values-driven, supportive environment. This is a unique opportunity to be part of our early growth phase and shape something new, backed by the stability and strength of a Fortune 500 company. Your impact begins on day one, and your contributions will help define our future in the region.

Key Responsiblities

  • Own end-to-end delivery on the mainframe stack — from scoping through production rollout — and stay accountable for it after it ships.
  • Build mainframe Java integrations — design and deliver MQ-based, API-based, and data-level integrations that bridge legacy systems with Spring Boot services on GCP/PCF.
  • Set the technical direction for modernization: identify what to wrap, what to replatform, and what to retire; raise the engineering quality bar across both stacks.
  • Build hands-on in COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, and MQ — you remain a working engineer.
  • Lead the team's transition into Java — pair with Java engineers, take on Spring Boot work as it lands on your plate, and help peers do the same.
  • Mentor engineers on both stacks; partner across product, architecture, vendors, and offshore teams

What you have

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ yrs: COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, and MQ in high-volume, highly-available production environments.
  • Deep experience with batch processing, online transaction processing (OLTP), and data integration patterns.
  • Proven track record of designing and operating mission-critical mainframe systems.
  • Demonstrated experience building integrations between mainframe and Java/Spring Boot workloads — MQ-based messaging, REST/SOAP APIs fronting mainframe services, data synchronization, or event-based bridging.
  • Working understanding of how distributed Java services consume mainframe data and capabilities.
  • Java fundamentals and a strong, demonstrated desire to move into the Java/Spring Boot stack within 18–24 months.
  • Comfortable picking up Spring Boot, REST APIs, and cloud-native patterns through structured ramp-up and on-the-job delivery.
  • Familiarity with cloud concepts (GCP, AWS, or Azure) — preferred.
  • Willingness to adopt coding assistants AI (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) in day-to-day mainframe and Java work — and to help establish team practices as adoption matures.
  • Agile methodology + Atlassian stack (JIRA, Confluence).
  • Drives projects to completion — anticipates risks, proposes creative solutions.
  • Experience working with vendors, offshore teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, influencing, and conflict-resolution skills; excellent written and verbal communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • End-to-end ownership partnering with technical and business experts; develops specs spanning architecture, design, production and test environments; drives POCs to validate modernization choices.
  • Strategic influence: drives data-based decisions, leads high-impact modernization programs, and shapes business unit strategy on the mainframe-to-cloud journey.
  • Communication & standards: delivers persuasive verbal and written communication that engages diverse audiences; upholds high standards of reliability and subject-matter authority; raises quality benchmarks across both legacy and modern stacks.
