Organization / Role Description

The Software Development & Engineering Associate is an early-career engineer who contributes to the reliability, support, and continuous improvement of Schwab's production technology platforms. Working within a Site Reliability Engineering and DevOps environment, this role assists in monitoring application health, supporting production operations, and implementing automation and operational improvements. The engineer collaborates with experienced team members to troubleshoot issues, support deployments, and maintain observability tooling. The role provides opportunities to develop expertise in cloud technologies, automation, monitoring, incident response, and software engineering best practices. The engineer learns operational processes while actively contributing to service reliability and client experience objectives. This position emphasizes technical growth, hands-on engineering experience, and building foundational knowledge in modern production operations

What you have

Key Responsibilities

•  Support troubleshooting and resolution of application and infrastructure issues.

•  Participate in production deployments and release support activities.
•  Develop and maintain basic automation scripts and operational tooling.
•  Assist in creating and updating monitoring dashboards and alerts.
•  Support incident response activities and follow established escalation procedures.
•  Contribute to root cause analysis and post-incident follow-up activities.
•  Document operational procedures, troubleshooting steps, and support runbooks.
•  Analyze logs, metrics, and telemetry data to support issue investigation.
•  Perform routine system validation, health checks, and operational verification tasks.
•  Support implementation of monitoring, observability, and reliability improvements.
•  Collaborate with software engineering teams to identify production support needs.
•  Participate in knowledge sharing, training, and technical development activities.
•  Follow established engineering standards, security practices, and operational processes.
•  Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance platform supportability.

Required Qualifications

•  5+ years of experience in software engineering, application support, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or related technical disciplines.
•  Basic experience supporting applications in production environments.
•  Understanding of software development lifecycle and modern engineering practices.
•  Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and operational support concepts.
•  Basic programming or scripting experience using languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, Shell, or similar technologies.
•  Exposure to CI/CD concepts and software deployment practices.
•  Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and analyze system behavior using logs and monitoring tools.
•  Strong problem-solving abilities and willingness to learn new technologies.
•  Effective collaboration and communication skills.
