What you have

Key Responsibilities:

​​▪ Lead the design, development, testing, and delivery of complex software solutions across the thinkorswim platform

▪ Independently drive large-scale development initiatives from requirements analysis and technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support

▪ Provide technical leadership and direction to development teams by establishing effective design approaches, engineering practices, and implementation strategies

▪ Analyze complex technical and business problems, evaluate solution options, and make sound decisions that support platform reliability, scalability, performance, and maintainability

▪ Collaborate with product owners, business stakeholders, architects, and technology partners to define strategy, scope requirements, decompose initiatives, and prioritize technical work

▪ Lead technical design discussions and contribute to architecture decisions for distributed, high-transaction, and mission-critical applications

▪ Troubleshoot complex production issues, lead incident investigations, and drive corrective actions that reduce recurring client and business impact

▪ Establish and promote practices for automated testing, secure development, code quality, observability, performance engineering, and stable software releases

▪ Conduct thorough code reviews and provide constructive technical guidance to improve solution quality and team effectiveness

▪ Mentor and coach software engineers, promote knowledge sharing, and help develop technical capabilities across the team

▪ Identify opportunities to improve development, testing, deployment, and production-support processes and lead implementation of those improvements

▪ Communicate technical strategies, risks, recommendations, and progress clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders​

Required Qualifications

▪ 8+ years of professional experience designing, developing, testing, and supporting software applications

▪ Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex development initiatives from requirements analysis and technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support

▪ Strong experience developing applications using Java and modern object-oriented programming practices

▪ Strong experience with Spring Boot or comparable application frameworks

▪ Strong understanding of concurrency, multithreading, distributed systems, and asynchronous processing

▪ Experience designing reliable, scalable, high-performance, and maintainable software solutions

▪ Experience with relational databases, data modeling, and writing efficient SQL queries at scale

▪ Experience with automated testing practices, including unit, integration, regression, and performance testing

▪ Experience troubleshooting complex production issues, participating in incident response, and driving corrective actions

▪ Experience contributing to software architecture, technical design decisions, and engineering standards

▪ Experience with secure software development practices, application resiliency, and operational support

▪ Ability to lead technical discussions, influence engineering decisions, and communicate complex concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders

▪ Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach engineers and contribute to the technical growth of the team

▪ Experience working collaboratively with product owners, business stakeholders, architects, QA, infrastructure, and other technology teams in an Agile Scrum environment

▪ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience

▪ Experience developing or supporting high-transaction, distributed, real-time, or mission-critical applications

▪ Experience with Java 21, advanced Java features, JVM behavior, garbage collection, and performance tuning

▪ Experience with messaging systems, APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, or asynchronous processing

▪ Experience designing and optimizing systems for scalability, availability, resiliency, and fault tolerance

▪ Experience with performance engineering, capacity planning, application monitoring, and observability tools such as Splunk or Grafana

▪ Experience with build, deployment, release, and test automation tools such as Gradle, Maven, CI/CD

▪ Experience leading architecture initiatives, technical migrations, platform modernization, or large-scale refactoring efforts

▪ Experience identifying and remediating application security vulnerabilities and supporting compliance requirements

▪ Experience establishing engineering standards, improving development processes, and driving adoption across teams

▪ Experience mentoring engineers, leading technical knowledge-sharing sessions, and developing team capabilities

▪ Experience working with trading, brokerage, financial services, or other complex business applications

▪ Familiarity with the thinkorswim platform or other desktop trading applications

▪ Experience partnering with enterprise architecture, infrastructure, security, performance engineering, and other technology organizations​
