We are looking for a Software Engineer that will build and enhance our tech stack to support Charles Schwab Bank's Lending products across both Home Mortgages and Securities-based Lending such as our flagship "Pledged Asset Line" product. This role will immerse themselves in our tech stack (Java-Spring Boot) while harnessing GitHub CoPilot to drive "forward thinking" ways of building software. Our Bank Technology team (Lending) oversees complex integration across SaaS providers and our core Lending platforms (System of record) for both Loan Origination and Servicing use cases. You'll support product offerings that provide liquidity to clients with a diverse range of asset classes held at Schwab.   • Design, develop, and deliver solutions as part of an Agile Scrum team. This will be a technical lead role and you will be guiding local teams
  • Leverage understanding of software development principles and practices to help mentor and coach junior team members
  • Support and triage issues and participate in production support to help develop resilient and secure systems to prevent issues that impact on our clients
  • Collaborate with product owners and business stakeholders to define strategy and scope of software requirements (decompose stories, design features, and prioritize tasks)
  • Delivering new concepts and features, working alongside development peers in an agile environment
  • Utilize automated software test tools and frameworks such as test-driven development to achieve the highest quality in software delivery

What you have


Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, related degree, OR related practical experience
  • 8+ years of experience in actively developing large scale software using: Java, Spring and spring boot framework, Spring Cloud Dataflow and other cloud frameworks, and REST API’s supporting high volume transactions in a highly available environment
  • 6+ years of experience working with containers and microservices in the cloud
  • 6+ years of experience in cloud deployment in a continuous integration, and continuous delivery model (CI/CD), technologies like GitHub, Bamboo, GitLab
  • 6+ years’ experience implementing automated unit tests, acceptance tests and integration tests following industry best practices
  • 6+ years’ experience working with databases like MongoDB, Aerospike, and/or PostgreSQL/DB2
  • 4+ years’ experience building messaging applications using messaging technologies (Rabbit MQ, Kafka, or equivalent)
  • 4+ years of experience with authentication protocols like OAuth and SAML
  • 4+ years of experience in authoring and maintaining integration layers with vendor systems that act as banking and move money cores
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with the demonstrable ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability in solution discovery and crafting a design based in engineering principles
  • Track record of pursuing and maintaining high quality while delivering on tight schedules
  • Collaborative mindset coupled with a bias for action to effectively engage with all areas of the business including Product Management, Architects, SRE, and adjacent teams, etc
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders including offshore teams and manage offshore development activities
  • Ability to effectively engage subject matter experts and understand technical topics
  • Demonstrated ability to disagree, argue your case with data, and commit to deliver regardless of the outcome of the disagreement
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems creatively
  • Track record of mentoring and coaching resulting in a stronger organization

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience with Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF), or AWS or GCP
  • 2+ years Prior experience in IT Transformations and system modernization initiatives from legacy to distributed platforms, i.e., Mainframe Cobol apps/DB2 to Java apps/SQL or MongoDB
  • Experience implementing batch applications using Spring framework using Control-M scheduler
  • Familiarity with Banking and Move Money cores such as FIS Profile, FiServ Enterprise Payments Platform
  • Proficient in developing Visio diagrams, architectural and design documentations, functional and technical specifications, automated test process
  • Willingness to learn all aspects of tech stack and documentation
  • Ability to research and document production and test environments along with architecture and design work
  • Knowledge of Agile methodology and experience in an Agile working environment
  • Experience with the Atlassian tool stack (JIRA and Confluence)
