As part of Schwab's AI Engineering & Operations team, you will be building the next generation Generative AI solutions that shape the future of technology at Schwab. In this role, you will contribute to the development and deployment of AI products that are instrumental in driving data-informed business decisions and elevating client experiences. You’ll collaborate across teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing AI systems that align with Schwab’s innovation strategy and operational goals.

We’re seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer who will design and deliver production-grade GenAI applications, enhancing the client journey and driving tangible business value. You’ll collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and business leaders to align solutions with Schwab’s strategic goals, and mentor junior team members—cultivating best engineering practices and a culture of continuous learning.

You will build and support the data pipelines, integrations, and cloud infrastructure that enable AI-powered solutions. Working with existing vendor-provided AI technologies and Large Language Models (LLMs). Focusing on connecting systems, managing data flows, ensuring data quality, and supporting reliable AI operations.

In this pivotal role, you’ll not only advance technical standards and solve complex challenges, but also lead rapid iterations from concept to production. You will bring curiosity, creativity, and technical depth to help shape the next era of AI at Schwab, with a special emphasis on reliability, monitoring, observability, and orchestration across products. Your work will be critical in maintaining high-performance, production-grade AI solutions that support decision-making and deliver consistent value.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines using Python that support AI-enabled business solutions and enterprise data workflows.
  • Develop and optimize ETL processes to ensure reliable movement, transformation, and validation of data across systems.
  • Leverage Google Cloud Platform (GCP) technologies including Cloud Run, Google Cloud Storage (GCS), and Dataflow to build and support production-ready data solutions.
  • Integrate AI and Large Language Model (LLM) capabilities within enterprise applications by connecting vendor-provided AI services and ensuring reliable data flow between systems.
  • Build and maintain solutions that manage data ingestion, transformation, validation, and delivery to downstream applications and AI services.
  • Ensure data integrity across pipelines by implementing validation checks, monitoring, and quality controls throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Design and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, and troubleshooting capabilities to support highly available production systems.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable and secure AI-enabled solutions.
  • Champion engineering best practices including code versioning, automated testing, documentation, and operational excellence.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to improve system reliability and performance.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and technical excellence.

What you have


To ensure that we fulfill our promise of “challenging the status quo,” this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have:

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of software engineering, data engineering, or related experience, including experience delivering enterprise-scale solutions.
  • Strong Python development experience with a focus on data processing, integrations, and pipeline development.
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting ETL and data pipeline solutions in cloud environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including services such as Cloud Run, Google Cloud Storage (GCS), Dataflow, or similar cloud-native technologies.
  • Experience integrating APIs, distributed systems, and enterprise applications.
  • Strong understanding of data validation, data quality controls, and data integrity practices.
  • Experience debugging complex production issues and performing root cause analysis.
  • Experience implementing testing strategies including test data creation, validation of outputs, and automated testing practices.
  • Experience using source control and modern code versioning practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience integrating Generative AI solutions and Large Language Models (LLMs) into enterprise applications.
  • Experience working with vendor-provided AI platforms and cloud AI services within the Google ecosystem.
  • Understanding of AI application architecture, including data preparation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and operational support.
  • Experience supporting the model lifecycle, including data preparation, testing, deployment validation, monitoring, and performance evaluation.
  • Experience developing scalable data platforms that support AI-enabled products and services.
  • Experience building highly observable and reliable production systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work across multiple interconnected systems.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and promoting best practices in software quality and engineering excellence.

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
