Your opportunity

At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together. We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).

Schwab Technology Services enables the future of how clients manage their money by providing innovative and reliable technology products and services as part of our ongoing commitment to democratize access to investing and financial planning.

Schwab is standardizing how teams build and deliver software across the enterprise. Our Development and Delivery Architecture team defines the target architecture, patterns, and guardrails that make delivery faster, safer, and more consistent while improving the developer experience.

As a Director, DevOps Architect, you will lead architecture for the enterprise development and delivery ecosystem. You will connect strategy to execution by designing scalable solutions, guiding adoption across many teams, and ensuring solutions are operable, compliant, and measurable. This role requires strong technical judgment, enterprise influence, and the ability to turn complex, cross team problems into clear standards and repeatable approaches.

Key Responsibilities

•Define and maintain the target architecture for Schwab’s development and delivery ecosystem, including reference architectures, patterns, standards, and integration guidance

•Lead solution architecture for enterprise capabilities that enable software delivery, including tool selection, platform integration, rollout planning, and operational readiness across monitoring, support, resiliency, and audit evidence

•Partner with platform, product, security, risk, and application teams to drive adoption of standards and platforms, remove delivery bottlenecks, and improve consistency across the enterprise

•Publish clear guidance and decision frameworks, and coach architects and engineering leaders to ensure patterns are understood and applied in real delivery environments

•Establish ways to measure success and outcomes, and use data to refine standards, improve reliability, and accelerate lead time for change

•Continuously evolve the roadmap based on business priorities, team feedback, and changes in cloud, automation, AI assisted delivery, and developer experience

What you have

Required Qualifications

• 7 plus years in software engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or enterprise architecture roles with direct responsibility for modern software delivery practices

• 5 plus years leading architecture or technical strategy for enterprise scale development and delivery platforms or SDLC toolchains

• Demonstrated experience designing and governing reference architectures, standards, and guardrails adopted across multiple product or application teams

• Hands on experience with CI/CD and automation platforms, including pipeline architecture, artifact management, build and test automation, and release strategies

• Experience designing secure and compliant delivery solutions in a regulated environment, including integration with identity, secrets management, policy as code, vulnerability scanning, and audit evidence automation

• Strong integration architecture skills across common delivery ecosystem components such as source control, build systems, artifact repositories, container platforms, deployment tooling, and observability

• Proven ability to influence senior engineering leaders and drive adoption across teams without direct reporting authority

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or scaling an internal developer platform, including self service workflows, golden paths, and developer experience measurement

• Experience with cloud platforms and delivery in hybrid environments, including AWS, Azure, or GCP and Kubernetes based platforms

• Experience with GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Argo CD, Terraform, or similar, including operating at enterprise scale

• Experience with software supply chain security practices, including SBOM, SLSA, provenance, signing, and dependency governance

• Experience implementing DORA metrics or similar delivery performance measurement and using data to drive platform decisions

• Experience leading large scale migrations or toolchain consolidations with strong change management and stakeholder alignment

• Familiarity with value stream management concepts and end to end delivery measurement

• Experience with AI tools used by Developers, including GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar.

• Experience with the architecture and implementation of SDLC planning tools including Jira and Rally, or similar.

• Advanced degree or relevant certifications in cloud, security, or architecture

"In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities."
