Your opportunity

At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together.

We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified locations.

Schwab Asset Management (SAM) manages investment products and capabilities that support millions of client accounts across Charles Schwab. Accurate, consistent, and trusted data is foundational to SAM’s ability to scale investment operations, meet regulatory obligations, and enable analytics and decision‑making across the firm.

As Senior Manager, Product Owner – Fundamental Data, you will own the vision, roadmap, and day-to-day product execution for shared foundational data products on the Schwab Asset Management Data Aggregator (SAMDA) platform. This role is ideal for a product owner who thrives in complex, highly reused domains—such as reference, entity, classification, and core investment data—and enjoys partnering across technology, operations, governance, and business teams. Your work will help ensure our fundamental data is reliable, scalable, and easy to consume so teams across SAM can serve clients with confidence, meet regulatory expectations, and make better decisions through trusted insights.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Own the product vision, roadmap, and measurable outcomes for one or more foundational data domains on SAMDA
  • Translate business, operational, and regulatory needs into a prioritized product backlog, defining user stories, acceptance criteria, and clear data quality expectations
  • Define and maintain data product “contracts” (definitions, domain boundaries, lineage expectations, access patterns, and consumer-ready standards)
  • Partner with data engineering, architecture, and governance to align authoritative sources, standardize definitions, and reduce duplication across the ecosystem
  • Balance discovery and delivery by sequencing work across ingestion, standardization, and access layers, while managing dependencies across teams and systems
  • Maintain a healthy, development-ready backlog with multiple sprints of clear work and transparent prioritization tradeoffs
  • Establish and monitor success measures (for example: data quality, timeliness, completeness, adoption, and operational impact) and use feedback to continually improve the product
  • Drive production readiness, including release planning, documentation, change communications, and triage of data defects and quality issues
  • Communicate decisions, risks, and progress in a clear, structured way—connecting work to business outcomes and client impact
  • Influence through credibility and collaboration, building alignment across stakeholders without relying on formal authorit
  • Mentor or support teammates through product owner best practices, contributing to stronger data product practices across SAM

What you have

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 8+ years of experience in investment management or financial services, with exposure to how data supports operations, trading, portfolio management, compliance, reporting, or analytics
  • 3+ years of experience as a product owner or product manager delivering data, platform, or technology products in an Agile environment
  • Demonstrated ability to define outcomes, manage a roadmap and backlog, and deliver complex initiatives by coordinating across business and technology partners
  • Ability to write clear, testable requirements (user stories and acceptance criteria) and to drive shared understanding of “done,” including data quality and controls
  • Strong communication and stakeholder partnership skills, with the ability to explain data concepts (definitions, lineage, quality, usage) in business terms
  • Proven problem-solving approach that seeks root causes, prioritizes durable fixes, and manages risk in shared, high-dependency products
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to operate with minimal supervision and to lead through influence in a complex, dynamic environment
  • Proficiency with common productivity tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with investment data domains such as security/reference data, entity data, classification/taxonomy data, product data, pricing, positions, and transactions
  • Familiarity with modern data platforms, data integration patterns, data quality controls, and metadata/lineage practices
  • Experience with Agile work management tools such as Jira and/or Rally
  • Product Owner certification (CSPO or equivalent) and/or SAFe certification (for example: SAFe POPM, SAFe Agilist)
  • Experience partnering with data governance or operating models that support auditability and regulatory expectation

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
