Wealth and Advice Solutions Technology (WAS Tech) is an organization within Schwab Technology Services aligned to support the technology needs of Wealth and Advice Solutions (WAS) business which is a growth area for Schwab.

This Senior Manager position within WAS Tech reports directly to the Director Wealth and Advice Solutions Technology.  This role will support the future growth of the WAS Tech business. As a seasoned, hands-on Senior Manager of Software Development Engineering, you will manage one or more WAS Tech Software Engineering delivery teams and enable them to achieve consistent, predictable, high-quality delivery by implementing best practices, tools, metrics, automation frameworks, and oversight in the areas of people management, software development and testing. You’ll serve as a strong and versatile hands-on technical leader. You will deliver high-quality solutions that meet business objectives in a flexible, collaborative, and rapidly changing environment.

You will play a critical role in supporting key stakeholders across the WAS Tech organization which is focused on high-net worth and ultra-high net worth retail investors. You will be working with a team of talented and highly motivated technologists that strive to make technology a strategic differentiator for Schwab’s WAS Tech business and their clients.

  • Using specialized knowledge and expertise in managing scrum teams to design, develop, test, and support complex software applications
  • Leading large complex projects and initiatives
  • Interpreting business requirements and/or strategies for assigned groups
  • Driving others to deliver high quality products and services
  • Identifying and resolving problems that require conceptual and innovative thinking
  • Using industry trends and practices to develop new procedures, processes, and standards
  • Building high functioning teams and transforming them into leaders.
  • Influence, refine, and communicate software design and technologies to develop modern server-side applications, with a strong focus on data services
  • Implement software development best practices as the go-to development partner between principals and the scrum team members
  • Coach team members to aid in identifying and achieving their personal and professional development goals
  • Manage talent acquisition by identifying resource needs, interviewing candidates, and onboarding new engineers and analysts
  • Provide project execution transparency and communicate with senior management and stakeholders on application and project status, risks, and issues; create reporting artifacts such as burn-down charts, project roadmaps with key milestones, and status reports
  • Skilled at tactfully communicating sensitive information. Handles difficult personnel situations directly, using appropriate discretion, HR advice, and respect for the individual

What you have


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • Expert level hands-on software development experience and project leadership experience. 12+ years desirable.
  • 5+ years’ experience running medium to large/complex IT projects with multiple cross-functional internal / external dependencies
  • 5+ years of professional experience leading teams that build distributed/scalable web applications using technologies like Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS
  • 3+ years’ experience providing oversight to multiple Agile teams and familiarity with DevSecOps and CI/CD practices, using tools like JIRA, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Git, Veracode
  • Ability to articulate designs and guide engineers utilizing Java, PCF, Spring, Reactive programming, Multi-threading, Messaging, Streaming, JSON, REST APIs, Relational Databases, and desirable to have NoSQL databases like MongoDB
  • Strong knowledge of system integration design patterns and experience in working on large scale data integration projects, ideally including data fabrics or equivalent. Experience delivering cloud native design, 12-factor applications.
  • Prior wealth management experience or financial experience is desirable
  • Strong influencing, negotiation, and problem-solving skills with an ability to identify stakeholders, assess their needs and manage their expectations through effective communication
  • Ability to independently manage people and tasks as a contributing member in a fast-paced environment across multiple time zones and locations

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities
