Your opportunity

At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us “challenge the status quo” and transform the finance industry together.

We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s). This role is expected to be in the office 4 days a week.

The Schwab Technology Services (STS) Portfolio & Project Management (PPM) organization partners with Business and Technology Leaders to prioritize and execute technology work for strategic business sponsored initiatives, enhancements, and standard technology operations.

About the Role:

As a Senior IT Project Manager within the Wealth Advisory Portfolio, you’ll lead enterprise-wide, cross functional initiatives that matter—to our clients, advisors, and teams. You’ll partner across business, technology, and risk to deliver outcomes that deepen relationships and help investors and advisors achieve their goals through full service wealth management, banking, and lending.

As Schwab continues its transition to a scaled agile model, this role blends strong project leadership with agile ways of working. You’ll bring clarity in complexity, align diverse stakeholders, and help teams move work forward—even when priorities shift.

What You’ll do:

  • Lead end to end delivery of strategic initiatives, owning scope, outcomes, and execution across business, operational, and technology workstreams.
  • Translate strategy into clear plans with defined milestones, dependencies, and measurable business outcomes.
  • Partner with business and technology leaders, product owners, and agile teams to deliver value in iterative, transparent ways.
  • Guide teams through all phases of delivery—initiation, planning, execution, and close—while adapting plans as conditions evolve.
  • Proactively manage risks, issues, and interdependencies, bringing forward options and recommendations.
  • Oversee financial forecasting, cost assumptions, and ongoing reconciliation of budgets, resources, and expenditures.
  • Collaborate with resource managers to forecast capacity and reconcile actuals against plans.
  • Facilitate effective decision making, problem solving, and conflict resolution across stakeholders.
  • Support agile practices by tracking delivery milestones and helping teams remove impediments.
  • Coach and mentor team members, fostering accountability, learning, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring:

  • The ability to build trust based partnerships and influence without authority in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Clear, confident communication—adapting your message for technical teams, leaders, and non technical partners.
  • Strong business and technical judgment, with the ability to connect delivery decisions to customer and advisor impact.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity, balancing multiple priorities, and making progress with incomplete information.
  • A collaborative mindset and a calm, solutions oriented approach under pressure.
  • An understanding of cross functional dependencies and how they shape delivery timelines and outcomes.
  • Financial and delivery acumen, including experience working with budgets, forecasts, and delivery metrics.
  • Practical knowledge of agile and traditional delivery approaches and when to apply each.
  • Curiosity and problem solving skills that help teams navigate challenges and continuously improve.

What you have

To ensure that we fulfill our promise of “challenging the status quo,” this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have:

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience leading multiple large, complex, cross functional projects in product, systems, or technical environments.
  • 8+ years of experience using project delivery tools and artifacts such as MS Project, Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, budgets, status reporting, and change management.
  • Demonstrated experience mobilizing and motivating teams, setting direction, resolving conflict, and delivering difficult messages with professionalism.
  • Hands on experience working with agile and software development methodologies, including Agile/Scrum.
  • Experience leading or supporting initiatives involving artificial intelligence and machine learning, partnering with data science, engineering, and business stakeholders.
  • A track record of building strong relationships and earning the trust of sponsors and key partners.
  • Demonstrated success delivering complex initiatives from concept through completion.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a scaled agile environment.
  • Experience supporting or partnering with Release Train Engineers.
  • Background in the financial services industry.
  • Project management or agile certification (such as PMP or PMI ACP).
