The Corporate Controller's Department is responsible for all financial accounting and reporting for the Charles Schwab Corporation and subsidiaries. In collaboration with our business partners, we provide comprehensive financial information to our various constituencies including shareholders, management, regulatory and tax authorities. We play a key role advising our business partners on accounting and reporting implications of proposed business transactions, developments in GAAP, and applicable regulatory reporting regimes in which the firm operates.

The Accounting Manager will participate in daily accounting activities, including journal entry creation and balance sheet reconciliations while partnering with the business, finance and the finance transformation team on General Ledger maintenance and enhancements.  Key responsibilities include documentation, control oversight, preliminary/final financial analysis for senior management, and working in our planning analytics reporting tool (Planit) for monthly/quarterly close.  Other responsibilities including non-GAAP reporting, preparing slides for close deck presentations as well as preparing schedules used in quarterly external regulatory filings. This position will be a people leader role and will report into a Sr. Manager within Corporate Accounting. 

What you have


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

  • 5+ years of accounting experience and month-end close functions in medium to large companies.

  • PeopleSoft or other ERP experience a plus.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and Planit reporting experience is a strong plus.

  • Strong attention to detail with rigorous review capabilities.

  • Communicate complex information clearly.

  • Exceptional at building internal and cross-functional relationships.

  • Constructively challenges existing processes with the aim of improving to promote scalability.

  • Initiative-taking, results-oriented operating style.

  • Ability to quickly analyze data, respond to changing demands, and present alternative solutions that are in the best interest of business partners while remaining compliant with accounting policies and GAAP.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage tight monthly close processes, document financial results, workpapers, testing results and conclusions in an effective, efficient manner.

What you will do:

  • Execute, understand and update internal control documentation and enhance control environment.

  • Design and automate monthly Planit reporting and build control checks as needed.

  • Maintain Planit for existing close deck, quarterly and Non-GAAP reporting.

  • Analyze large sets of data and files involving general ledger, sub-ledger, and project activity.

  • Review financial data and prepare variance analysis on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

  • Prepare preliminary and final reporting for Senior Management.

  • Presentation of consolidated GAAP and Non-GAAP financial results.

  • Assist in Consolidated accounting of Strategic Investments, Equity Compensation and EPS.

  • Identify and execute on process improvements.

  • Contribute to other operational support and ad hoc initiatives to strengthen overall processes.

  • Develop and maintain cross-functional relationships.

  • Respond to inquiries from business partners, enterprise finance, SOX and auditors regarding consolidated financials.
