We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s). This role is expected to be in the office 4 days a week.

Schwab's AI Engineering & Operations team is responsible for building the next generation Generative AI solutions that shape the future of technology at Schwab. Engineers collaborate across teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing AI systems that align with Schwab’s innovation strategy and operational goals. Additionally, the AI products this team delivers are instrumental in driving data-informed business decisions and elevating client experiences.

We’re seeking a Senior Manager to lead/manage a team of engineers who will design and deliver production-grade GenAI applications, enhancing the client journey and driving tangible business value.

In this pivotal role, you’ll help shape the next era of AI at Schwab by advancing engineering standards and solving complex, real‑world challenges. You’ll lead teams through rapid iterations—from concept to production—while fostering a culture of curiosity, creativity, and continuous learning.

With a strong emphasis on site reliability, monitoring, observability, and operations, you’ll ensure the AI systems and data pipelines your team builds are resilient, well‑monitored, and ready to support mission‑critical use cases. Your work will directly impact system performance, reliability, and customer trust at scale.

At Schwab, you’ll collaborate with talented engineers and partners who value integrity, inclusion, and shared success—while growing your own leadership and technical impact along the way.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead, mentor, and coach engineers, fostering strong engineering practices, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Guide teams in solving complex technical challenges and delivering rapid, high‑quality iterations from concept through deployment.
  • Champion reliability, monitoring, observability, and operational excellence across AI systems and data pipelines.
  • Design and sustain monitoring, alerting, and incident response practices that promote system health, uptime, and resilience.
  • Partner closely with cross‑functional teams to align solutions with enterprise strategy and technical standards.
  • Advance engineering standards with a focus on quality, operational readiness, and long‑term sustainability.
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking, adaptability, and initiative while navigating ambiguity and driving alignment across teams.

  • 8+ years of software development experience, including 4+ years as a hands‑on senior engineer.

  • 5+ years of experience building complex products end‑to‑end, supporting them in production, and ensuring operational reliability.

  • 3+ years of experience developing applications and data pipelines that work with large datasets.

  • 5+ years of experience with containers and cloud‑native applications, including operationalizing systems in the public cloud using infrastructure as code.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence through others, provide clear and constructive feedback, and manage competing priorities effectively.

  • Strong people management skills, including hiring, mentoring, performance management, and career development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong computer science fundamentals with experience across multiple layers of the technology stack.
  • A commitment to quality, including advocating for testing and reliability at all levels.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • High emotional intelligence and leadership presence, building trust and followership at all organizational levels.
  • Experience mentoring engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and career coaching.
  • A detail‑oriented, process‑minded approach with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Comfort solving complex problems in distributed systems, even when information is incomplete or ambiguous.
  • Business domain knowledge gained through delivering customer‑facing or enterprise products.
  • Curiosity about emerging technologies and a willingness to share knowledge and learn from others.
  • Experience with Python, Java, or front‑end development (helpful but not required).
  • Master’s or advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field.
