Schwab has been doing in-house, native mobile development for several years but every business channel in Schwab is increasing their presence on the mobile platform. We are looking to grow a high performing, engaged mobile development team that is passionate about delivering an excellent mobile experience for our users, from checking account balances to complex trading, Schwab’s ever growing mobile user base is asking for more features and more and interesting visualizations and interactions. We are seeking a Mid-Level Android Engineer to build and maintain features for our mobile applications. In this role, you will implement technical solutions, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to code quality through thoughtful design and testing. You will work alongside senior engineers to deliver high-quality mobile experiences while growing your technical skills. This position requires solid Android development experience, strong coding fundamentals, and the ability to work effectively in an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

Application Development

  • Design, develop, and maintain Android application features using Kotlin and modern Android frameworks
  • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code following established coding standards and best practices
  • Implement UI components using Jetpack Compose and/or XML layouts that deliver excellent user experiences
  • Integrate with RESTful APIs and backend services to enable application functionality
  • Debug and resolve application issues, crashes, and performance bottlenecks

Code Quality & Testing

  • Write unit tests and UI tests to ensure code reliability and maintainability
  • Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers
  • Ensure code follows architectural patterns and design principles
  • Optimize application performance, memory usage, and battery consumption
  • Address security vulnerabilities and follow secure coding practices

Release & Deployment

  • Support the release process by ensuring features are production-ready
  • Monitor application performance and stability post-deployment
  • Respond to production issues and contribute to incident resolution
  • Participate in on-call rotation to support application availability (if applicable)

What you have


Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • 3-5 years of experience developing Android applications
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience with Kotlin for Android development

Technical Skills - Core

  • Strong proficiency in Kotlin and Android SDK
  • Experience with dependency injection frameworks (Dagger 2, Hilt, or Koin)
  • Solid understanding of REST API integration and network communication
  • Experience writing unit tests and UI tests (JUnit, Espresso, or similar)
  • Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and code review practices
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and debugging production issues

Technical Skills - Desired

  • Experience with reactive programming (RxJava or Coroutines/Flow)
  • Knowledge of MVI, MVVM, or Clean Architecture patterns
  • Experience with Jetpack Compose
  • Understanding of accessibility features (TalkBack, Dynamic Type)
  • Experience debugging memory and performance issues
  • Familiarity with Android native modules and multi-SDK support

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Github Copilot/Cursor for coding, PR etc
  • Experience with MCP server
  • Experience with performance analysis and optimization tools
  • Knowledge of mobile security best practices
  • Understanding of CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Bamboo, or similar)
  • Financial services or regulated industry experience
