The Retail Web Technology (RWT) organization leads a coordinated technology approach to continually improve Schwab’s primary retail digital platform. What you are good at

As our Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and building high performance real-time and batch ETL (ELT) data pipelines for operational metrics and events to improve observability of Schwab’s digital platforms. You are enthusiastic about learning new and existing technologies to deliver exceptional software solutions. You need to have proven critical thinking skills and a laser focus on pragmatic problem solving. Our ideal candidate has backgrounds in both software engineering and data engineering, along with a strong passion for DevOps and SRE best practices.

As a data engineer you will be expected to:

  • Lead efforts to analyze data models, data interfaces and dependencies of the Enterprise tools; plan, specify, and develop new data integrations and interfaces.  You will design and build data pipelines to pull data from various Enterprise tools, including Splunk, ThousandEyes, Akamai mPulse, Adobe Analytics, BMC Remedy, JIRA, Confluence, Tableau and GCP BigQuery, and store the enriched data to timeseries and SQL databases.
  • Design and build streaming data pipelines from message queues to timeseries database to provide near real-time visibility to key operational metrics.
  • Automate deployment and orchestration of data pipelines and workflows
  • Optimize Flux, SQL and Rest API queries for speed, efficiency, and data quality.
  • Providing production support for data issues, including data fixes and backfills across platforms.

What you have

  • 10 + years of experience in building data pipelines to handle high frequency ETL flows from many different sources, using REST APIs, PubSubs, MessageQueues, SQL queries and enterprise-class ETL tools to pull data
  • 10+ years of experience in using Dataframes (Pandas, Spark, etc) for transforming the data
  • 10 + years of experience in data pipeline and workflow orchestration tools (Prefect, Apache Airflow, control-M etc.) 
  • 10 + years of experience with all aspects of data systems, including database design, ETL, aggregation strategy, performance optimization
  • Experience in data streaming technologies like Kafka, Apache Pulsar,  etc.
  • 10 + years of experience in building and designing ETL code using Python (Java, .NET)
  • 10 + years of experience in developing, tuning and debugging complex SQL queries
  • Experience developing relational, non-relational, and dimensional data models
  • Experience working on agile teams delivering data solutions
  • Experience in delivering data solutions on public and private cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, VMWare, etc)
  • Ability to independently work as a contributing member in a high-paced and focused team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
